Hi Shelley, you mean the engine turns over but won't start ? It's missing one of three things Spark , Fuel or compression ! The last time it ran , did it run ok or not good ? No blue smoke coming out the tail pipe or smoke coming from under the hood ? Were there any lights lit on the dash , check engine , oil light...etc.. How low was the oil ? If the oil had been very low an you where driving it you could have fried the engine ! Me ,if this car came to my shop I'd pull a plug wire an see if it had spark an if it did I put a fuel presser gauge on an check for fuel ! If it had fuel I'd check compression ! Most usually if low oil were the problem the engine would seas up an would not turn at all. No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy You can watch this to see what is involved in finding out the problem !
check the colour of engine oil on the dip stick / check the inside of the engine oil lid, if its milky white then see mechanic to overhaul your engine.
Hi Nikki, What oil was low? Was it engine oil or gear box oil? Did the engine overheat? what exactly happened? Did you hear any strange noises when the engine stopped? Was the vehicle towed or was it on the back of a recovery vehicle? If it was towed, at what speed and over what distance? What engine is fitted? Is it petrol or diesel powered? Give as many details as possible to help us help you. Regards John
If the check oil light goes on your vehicle, pull over as quickly and safely as you can. Turn off the engine, then put on your hazard lights and open the hood. Check the oil and then add oil if it is low. Restart the engine and check the light. The check oil light means that your oil is very low.
the stab light comes on if the battery is low because you are cranking the engine your aj26 v8 engine may have a common problem for cars up to that model/year with worn nicosil coated bores ie. low compression check the vin no. at your jag dealer you can get it started by removing the spark plugs and putting a egg cup of engine oil in to each of the cylinders the first thing to do is to check for fault codes using a obd code reader for a clue followed by a compression test
normally i would say if it ran low on oil and now the engine wont turn over, i would suspect internal engine damage. But, have someone check first to be sure it isnt something easy like a battery connection or starter
could be bad lifters or loose rocker arms, bad oil pump or low on oil, possible bad cam (but not likely) first thing i would do is check your oil real low oil will cause this if oil is fine check for oil pressure if oil pressure is low assume bad oil pump if oil prssure looks good look for bad lifters or loose rocker arms
