Question about 1997 GMC Jimmy

I am having some issues it starts to loose power after driving for 15 or 20 min shut it off and restart runs good for another 15 or 20 min replaced o2 censors all but one ofter cat, replaced cat converter, map sensor, plugs wires cap and roater, throttle pos sensor, egr cleaned up and tested good replaced other things too nothing worked. what else can it be throws o2 sensor code every time that is all i know

    o2 sensor usually will not make it shut off,could be fuel pump or elect. circuit for pump or ign. will be hard to find because it works fine right away and theres no other codes,

Sounds like the cpi injector assembly. The fuel pressure regulator may be leaking. Or the poppet valves on the injectors may be sticking or shot. I replaced almost every part on my truck and that is what it ended up being the whole time. It's a common problem on these models. Hope this helped

1997 GMC Jimmy 4.3. It runs great. I will drive it for 30-45 min and then it will die on me. All dash lights will come on just like if you turn the key on and not start the engine. It will restart and then...


When the engine dies do the accessories such as radio, lights, heater all die along with the engine; or do they keep running as they were prior to the stall?
If they all quit together (as if the key was shut off) I would check the electrical part of the ignition switch or the battery cables and connections (check both ends of cables and little ground wire near battery that connects to car body). The ignition switches are a well known culprit in the s10's.

If the radio and lights keep running after the stall, I would look at the crank position sensor, ignition coils etc.

I have a 1997 jimmy and it cranks up fine but it starts bogging down when i am driving and when i try to climb a hill


You may have a clogged up egr valve. When the egr valve gets clogged up with carbon, the truck will run rough, surge stall, and be very anemic on power. Is the service engine soon(check engine) light on? I've dealt with this issue before, and those 4.3 v6's tend to get egr issues. Try this: when it bogs and runs rough, stop truck, open hood, and tap on egr valve base( where it bolts to engine) if rough running clears up, there's your problem. Egr valve is located on front of engine just to the rt of alternator bracket.

96 jimmy shuts off while running and will turn back on, changed control module and the throttle body and MAF sensor. told by dealer to change this and problem would be fixed, problem not fixed.


i have had problems with the fuel pump relays heating up and loosing contact. it will not trigger a code and the only way to track it is to attatch a fuel pressure gauge to the system and wait for it to die. chances are you will see the pressure drop to 0 psi.

98 gmc jimmy loses power to a stop


the fuel pump could actually be malfunctioning. and the reason that you are able to restart and drive again is because when you turn the key on it is allowing the fuel pump to pressureize your system. but while the fuel pump is continuasly running it is loosing the fuel pressure. this is common on the cheap fuel pumps. i am not sure about were you got the fuel pump from but in all of my experiances with this problem i find that the fuel pumps have been boughten at a napa store.
i hope this helps you out.
and you could attach a fuel pressure gauge on to the fuel rail and start the car and watch the pressure to see if it is droping.

2000 GMC Jimmy will not start


First of all, check your air filter. Then your engine ground connection. Then all the connections in your ignition system. If none of that gets it, try you could have a faulty idle contol system. Change sensor. Then coil pack if you still don't have it figured. Good luck. I hope this helps.

Engine bogs down and shuts off while driving down the road.


could be vgr valve or the brain box trying to go out vgr valve u can remove and scrape the carbon deposits off using a wired brush alot of times when it is the vgr valve thats all it is they vary rarely have to be replaced

When was the last time the fuel filter was chg. If you can't remember its time for a new one.If it does not help after you chg. filter, best to fuel pressure test, to see if pump is going bad.

Spark problem


you did not say if you have changed the coil or not. the coil is what give's it the firing power it needs to crank as well as to run smooth. Replace the coil. let me know how it does.
