MALIBU 2006 ELECTRIC POWER STEERING DEFECT

Latest update fromFeb 27th.After taking the Malibu into the dealership and having it diagnosted with a defective steering motor they informed me that because of the safety bulletin I showed them dated 2005 they would split the cost and replace the motor for 202.40.I told the service manager not to fix the problem untill I investaged further including calling GM and seeing what they said. After several discussions with customer service over the phone a dertermanation will be made Monday as to the cost.Im not paying for a defective steering issue that indangered my wife who will not drive this make car again.NOW do I keep it ?sell it to some unsuspecting person or trade it in .Wow,what to do?I really like the car but it is dangerous and could kill an unsispecting driver who isnt aware that at any time the steering could malfunction and be very had to steer.Added NOTE.When I talked to the sale manager and the salesman who sold me the car they did not have a clue that there was a serious issue with the steering on theMalibu or the other makes of vehicles that use the same steering systme.WOW again and now they know and shame on them if they sell these vehicles knowing theres a problem. If GM is not going to fix this serious defect with a full recall then they should a least send out a saftey bulletin to at least give the loyal customers a fighting chance for there safety.

Just began a couple of weeks ago, first it was scary, it happened driving through a Jack-In-The-box to get a bit to eat, now this last week, on a trip to Vegas, our Malibu lost power steering every single time we turn the wheel to the right! we cut our trip short to head back home, I read and reread the owner manual, but there is nothing telling us what to do except take the car to the dealship. Seems to me after all the sites I have read on the Web regrding the 2006 Chevy Malibu Hatchback SS....this is a problem that GM truly needs to address before someone gets seriously injured!!!

What was the problem with the motor?

The only problems they have normaly is when you turn they will make a clunking noise and you can feel it in the wheel. There is no grease in this system it is just metal on metal. the intermediate shaft also gets loose and makes noise. I have never seen a steering outage problem. What is the problem with yours?

Why does my 2008 chev Malibu drive like it has no power steering?

Are there an light's lit on the instrument your not familiar with ? DO you have regular Malibu or Malibu Classic ?
Also does yours have hydraulic power steering or Electric power steering ? GM had known problems with EPS - electric power steering . Your best bet would be to take it an have it checked out at a qualified repair shop .

2006 Chevy Malibu - the power steering comment came on the screen and it isn't handling right. Where is the power steering reservoir to fill it?

Your 06 Malibu has electric assist power steering. There is no reservoir, or pump for that matter. A previous problem of this sort was on the website a couple of weeks ago, and someone had mentioned that there was a recall for this problem. Call your Chevrolet dealer and inquire.

I can't figure out where to put power steering fluid in my 2004 chevrolet malibu

the 2004 malibu does not have a place to put transmission fluid it has a electric power steering system and does not use fluid, if you are having a problem with the power steering light chimming and lighting up this is under a recall that chevy has obligated to fix. So if your car is doing this take it to your local chevy dealership and have them to repair it for you. Hope this helps.

We're having a popping sound in the steering in my 2006 malibu maxx hatchback ? Is there a recall . Please help

i just bought a 2005 malibu maxx from a dealership. It was having a popping sound when i would turn the wheel back and forth. Had the dealership fix it. THEY said they replaced the ( rack and pinion ) for the steering on the car. Don't think there is a recall on that. GM had a lot of problems with that popping noise on their malibu maxx. Hope that might help.

My 2006 Malibu steering wheel is going bad.

The power steering is electric on that car. It has a electric motor on the column, and a control module. There are several causes that could be the problem. You need to have it scanned to get a better idea of what to do. If you can give me the codes you get then I will be glad to advise you on what's best. Good Luck
