Problem can be bypassed by inpluging ''engine relay''

Same problem onolder Honda, but I think it is the ignition cyclinder itself, because I can get it going by holding the key in. I don't know if it will be cheaper to get a new key cylinder or just have someone hot wire it and put in an old-time pustbutton to start it

This issue requires a lot of careful troubleshooting. You really need a fuel pressure gage to start. You check the pressure with the key on and then while it starts and finally after it dies. If the pressure is good, then you measure AC volts at the injectors while cranking, while running, and as it dies. You should read a few volts, and it should stay the same or increase until it completely stops running. If the volts go down, after it starts, you then check just the DC volts on the positive injector terminal with the other meter lead on chassis ground. Again, the DC voltage should not decrease after the engine starts. If anything, it should increase to 14 volts and then drop back to 12 volts only after the engine dies.
If all of that is good, you have fuel.
Next look at sparks.
Remove one of the wires from a spark plug, stick a phillips screwdriver in the boot to connect it to the terminal. Then hold the screwdriver by the insulated handle and hold the metal shank about 1/8 th inch from engine ground, such as the cylinder head. Watch the sparks carefully as someone starts the engine. Do the sparks continue as the engine starts to die or do the sparks stop before the engine stops?
If the sparks continue until the engine stops, you have fire.
Now the only thing left is the air.
Will the engine keep running if you press on the accelerator? If yes, the problem may be with the idle air control valve.
If all of these things are working correctly, the problem is very difficult to find.
If either the sparks, fuel pressure, or injector voltages drop off after starting, we can find the problem in the next step.
Let me know the outcome of these tests before we do that.
If you don't have a fuel pressure gage, you can run the other tests first or borrow a gage from autozone.

1991 toyota pickup will start ,but will not stay running

Does it start but the moment you let go of the key it dies? Some cars have a wire from the starter to the ignition coil that provides power during start up. This will let it start but if the circuit from the ignition switch to the coil is not working it will die the moment you let go of the key. Find the positive on your coil and connect a wire from there to the positive of the batery. If it start and keep on running the problem is between your ignition and the coil. Remember the engine will not stop until you remove the wire from the batery.

Starts and dies unless I rev it up then it will Idle

The battery might be low but I doubt it is causing the "no idle" problem.
You should have an idle air control valve that the computer uses to adjust idle speed. That valve could be faulty or dirty.
Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ?

1997 GMC Jimmy 4.3. It runs great. I will drive it for 30-45 min and then it will die on me. All dash lights will come on just like if you turn the key on and not start the engine. It will restart and then...

When the engine dies do the accessories such as radio, lights, heater all die along with the engine; or do they keep running as they were prior to the stall?
If they all quit together (as if the key was shut off) I would check the electrical part of the ignition switch or the battery cables and connections (check both ends of cables and little ground wire near battery that connects to car body). The ignition switches are a well known culprit in the s10's.

If the radio and lights keep running after the stall, I would look at the crank position sensor, ignition coils etc.

Good Luck!

96' sunfire changed engines 2.2 starts dies theft light comes on

The problem is the new PCM you installed does not have the correct VIN number of your car.
You may be able to relearn the VIN using the preceedure below, however, there is no gaurentee it will work. You may have to have a dealer reset the VIN for you by way of a scan tool.

1) Instert key into ignition and rotate to run position (do not try to start engine)
2) Leave the key in the run position for 10 minutes until security light stops flashing.
3) Turn ignition key to off position for 10 seconds ( no more, no less)
4) Turn ignition to run position again for 10 minutes until security light stops flashing and repeat step 3 and 4 for (1) more cycle.

The process is a security verification step for the VTD system. ( Vehicle Theft Deterent)

Give it a try, let me know.
