Question about 2002 Ford Escape

Air bag light flashes continually. Is it a danger to drive?

This is NOT a Ford Escape. It IS a 1995 Ford Taurus. We changed the steering column. What is an air bag simulator? Should one have been used when the steering column was changed? Everything was put back in place as it was found when reassembled. What is the problem?

SOURCE: Air Bag lights up intermittently

It could be a clock spring worn out but you need to know about changing it as the clock spring has to be put in exactly the right position or you can break it, it also could cause the air bag to deploy. you can go to this site and talk to them about getting the code to see if that is the problem, and if you still want to change it you can post back here and I will give you detailed instructions on how to do this, you will need a steering wheel puller which you can rent but first pull the codes, you will have to register before you can get the phone number to talk to them.

Steering tilt message when car slows down eg at stop light, car shuts off, goes to neutral - positively dangerous !!??

Sounds like the collapsable steering column triggered and is shorting out ignition switch. That my friend needs to be addressed by a dealer. You're also looking at a really dangerous situation if air bag goes off while your driving.

I have a code 51 blinking air bag light from my 1995 ford taurus. what does this mean

Hi Branda1, It will have to go to a dealer to repair. Air bags are not something you want to do yourself, very dangerous. Here is what code 51 means.. hope this answers your question.. Cobra

Diagnostic Trouble Code 51—Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse—Fuse Blown Due to Intermittent Short to Ground Normal Operation
NOTE: The air bag diagnostic monitor contains an internal thermal fuse that is not serviceable. The thermal fuse is controlled by the microprocessor inside the air bag diagnostic monitor . The microprocessor inside the air bag diagnostic monitor will blow the thermal fuse whenever a short on the deployment circuits occurs. The thermal fuse does not blow because of excessive current flowing through it. DO NOT attempt to short circuit the thermal fuse with a circuit breaker or any other type of fuse.

If the computer in the air bag diagnostic monitor detects an open in the air bag indicator circuit and if another system fault exists, then the air bag diagnostic monitor will turn on its internal tone generator (beeper). The beep pattern is five sets of five beeps. The pattern is repeated every 30 minutes while the ignition switch is in the ON position. The five beeps do not indicate a code five or any other code. The air bag indicator circuitry must be repaired before the diagnostic trouble code can be read.

Air bag light is on and cruise control, lighter and horn don't work. There is a mechanism I'm sure in the steering wheel that needs to be changed. Is it dangerous to drive until I get it...

im dave
if the air bag light is on that means the system is disabled. If you dont mind driving without an airbag than i would say it is no more dangerous than driving a pre air bag vehicle and those inherent dangers. Remember howevere that an air bag is a secondary resttraint system and should always be used in conjunction with the primary restraint system...your seatbelts.
