I would remove the full timing cover most times the bad spot is right on the teeth first. Then get back to me. I think you will find your problem there. But please when you post further please provide the year make and model we have no idea what you are referencing 90 2000 2010 4x4 etc and i will still need this info asto tell you if the engine is shot if it broke during rotation some engines bend valves when this happens. Get back to me

Engine won't start

the spark plug wires can be confusing but a 4 cylinder is not that hard from the front of the engine being where the pulleys & belts are its 1,2,3,4 on the coil or distributor it can be in counter or clockwise rotation 1&3,2&4 or 1&4,2&3 likely its 1&3,2&4 hope you find this helpful

Disconnected battery and now won't start

Won't start as in no rotation of the starter motor and no clicking sound? Or starter turns slowly with the engine? Or the starter and engines turns normally but will not start? Or starter turns normally but engine will not turn?

I bought a 97 safari 4.6 awd. It sat for a few years. They said they fixed the lifter. I had to put the intake manifold back on the engine. I went to start it, and it won't even crank. I can manually...

ENGINE COULD HAVE THROWED ROD BEARING.REMOVE SPARK PLUGS TO KILL COMPRESSION WHILE YOU TURN ENGINE OVER.IF ENGINE STILL WONT TURN EASILY VALVES LASH ADJUSTMENT COULD BE TIGHT MAKING HARD FOR ENGINE TO CRANK.

Engine rotates but will not start

three things an engine needs, fuel, air, and spark. without any one of these it will rotate but not start. 1. Air - If filter is clogged it cannot get air, but it would have to be verry dirty for this to be the problem 2. Fuel - If no fuel check fuel filter, lines, sending unit 3. Spark - Check ignition, spark plugs, plug wires,
If it has no spark and this happened suddenly, as it was running, died or was shut off and now won't start it is also a very good probability that the timing belt broke.

The engine rotates but won,t start. installed a new fuel filter, spark plugs(gapped @ .040"), new spark plug wires, and a new camshaft sensor. the car might have run out of gas. the data link...

Hi

It sounds like a timing issue if you are getting fuel, spark and air then I would look at that first. is the crank shaft sensor good?

Engine rotates but will not start

Does the engine rotate at all when trying to start, or won't rotate at all? Clicking sound?
Blown fuse somewhere?
hope this works or clarify some more.

Car will not start

If I am right, the firing order is,1-3-4-2. With the dissy cap removed, have someone turn the engine over so you can see which way the rotor arm goes. Set the engine to TDC and the rotor arm should point to the No1 cylinder at the start of the firing order. If it rotor points away from the No 1 cylinder then slacken the dissy housing and move the diddy until the rotor ppoints to the No1 cylinder. Now pHT lead from the No1 spark plug to the No 1 possition on the dissy cap. The next lead goes on the next available possition on the dissy cap in the way of the rotation of the rotor then to the No3 spark plug carry on the same with 2 and 4 and that should solve your problem unless you have a different firing order.
