I had the same issue with my 2001 Monte Carlo LS!! It's either the thermostat or the coolant temperature sensor. They are right near each other. I encountered this issue not long after I flushed the cooling system so I decided to change both because I didn't want to just do one and it not be the problem. After changing them, the problem went away.

It's the fan relay you need to replace, it's sticking closed.

The fan is electric and if the car is hot the fan will stay on to cool the engine it should shot off in less than five minutes.

Get the battery recharged and have the alternator tested . Voltage at battery with the car running should be 13.5-14 volts. If the battery light came on with engine running that indicates a bad alternator .NEVER remove battery cables with engine running , tests nothing and could cause ecu failure.

Fan by the radiator stays on after the car is turned off

some models will allow the fan to continue to run after the key is turned off Check to see if there is a sticker somewhere near the radiator that says "fan may start at anytime even when engine is not running"of something like that.......if not it is probably the fan sensor switch.........they are usually either in the intake manifold or sometimes in the radiator.(also in the housing near the thermostat)

Fan keeps blowing

There is a tempurature sensor that the fan gets a signal from so it knows when to turn the fan on or off. Sounds to me like this sensor went bad is sending false signals to the fan.

Hope this helps
