Question about 1994 Saab 900

1996 SAAb 900 SE moving problem

I bought the saab 4 weeks ago and today when i was driving it suddenly started slowing down. The accelerator was not working as i ressed it and not much power was going through. I finally had to stop at the side. After that sometimes the car starts and sounds normally and sometimes it starts to make a chug chug noise and goes off. The roadside assistance guy said it might be the sparkplug or the timing belt. I could use some advice so that i dont sound like an idiot when i go to the mechanic and taken advantage for being a noob about cars.

    I have the same problem with my saab, apparently its called limp home mode, appropriate I suppose. My check gearbox light goes on and then its downhill from their. If light doesn't turn on its the greatest little car I have over owned. So for the diag points to an open circut/solenoid issue. I am currently surfing blogs and forums and it seems to come down to intermitten solenoid and dirty connects. I have yet to fix anything on mine so as of yet everything is unproven to me.

My Saab 900 se turbo 2.0l 4 cylinder Stals out when I push down on the gas pedal. If I release soon enough it cuts back in. any solutions?


Likely has a vacuum hose leak. The hoses all die from the massive heat generated by the turbo engines. Check all the ones on the throttle for cracks.

i just put new breaks on my 1996 saab 900s front and back but the abs light comes on and off, also over a week ago and my check engine light is on and staying on all the fluids and everything is in the car i dont no what it is and nobody knows i just bought the car June 26, 2011 please help.

2 Weeks started to need to turn key twice to start. Today finally, it would try to kick-over, but would not. I tried push-starting (not sure if wise with a Saab 900 SE, or any Saab). That did not work. No...


sounds like a fuel related problem, possibly a fuel pmp, take a little starting fluid and spray it into the air intake and try to start it, if it fires up for a couple seconds then it is the fuel system...if it doesnt start that you have an electrical problem. Once you narrow it down into one of those two catragories, you will know where to look....the most common problem in fuel system is the fuel pump, others include, the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and the injectors, the most common eletrical issues are the plugs, wires, coil, distributor, and starter. Another good way to check a fuel pump is to have it nice and quite and to the key from off the the start position, not turn the van over, but just to start, you should hear a little humming noise from the rear of the vehical which is the pump kicking on, if you can acheive the quiet you need for this you can have someone turn the key back and forth while you listen at the filler tube or even crawl under to the tank.

You'll need a euro capable scanner to pull codes. Most code readers are not compatable with european software.

is the trigger wire on starter (sm conn) energised when you turn key? should be close to 12v. could be bad ign switch if no power..

Elite foreign auto parts has only saab parts.. tested and used,

also check your abs unit connection mounted near the over flow bottle this controls the speedo on that car..
