2000 ford escort zx2 bank 1 running lean

Had it tested and it said oxygen sensor was bad, I replaced that but it still runs rough at idle. I don't know what to do now. I researched online and some people said check p c v hoses, but I don't know where they are.

I replaced the sparks plugs and wires also. I will check the hoses off the throttle body

  • gtdm1980 Mar 05, 2009

I hear air but I can't find where it is coming from, any suggestions?

  • gtdm1980 Mar 19, 2009

my throttle body doesn't have a large hose on the back of it. This mechanic guy used some spray and when he sprayed it by the throttle body the engine ran like it used to. He said the throttle body could be cracked or a hose underneath the car is cracked. Is it possible for the throttle body to be cracked?

  • gtdm1980 Mar 21, 2009

I replaced the throttle body gasket, where is the intake gasket located?

My 2000 Ford Escort won't idle. The computer said oxygen sensor bad.

Try to check the cathalytic converter ... sometimes if its not functioning well it might cause engine performance - for diesel ...

for gasoline time replace the spark plug ...advise to use the original brands

Check for a vac leak straight off the back of the throttle body. If you can't find any vac leaks, clean the MAF

The biggest hose coming straight off the back of the throttle body. It should be a rubber 90 degree elbow. It goes to the pcv system. You might have to feel down around with your hand, when you get the right hose the pitch of the whistle should change. The small amount of oil that the pcv system sucks up eats these rubber elbows.

Doubtful. It is either a vacuum leak on one of the hoses, A leaking intake gasket or a leaking throttle body gasket.

Between the intake manifold that the throttle body is bolted to and the cylinderhead.

2000 Ford Escort zx2 runs rough and stalls in reverse

The Ford Escort ZX2, the 2.0 liter is a interference engine,The valve and the piston kissed each other as they met with a broken timing belt,Just to let you know a cam position sensor does not create rough idle, it can stall the engine at a stop sign, but the solution is a valve job, and who ever put the timing belt on after the job should have done a cylinder effeciency test.

2000 ford escort ZX2 with P0171 trouble code. Cleaned MAF, replaced MAF, replaced vacuum lines, replaced upstream o2 sensor. No change. Any ideas?

I am working on the same problem. This 2000 ZX2 was idling rough and throwing a p171 code (bank 1 too lean). I hooked up a scanner to the OBDII port and you could see the O2 sensor at 0 or very low voltage and not switching and the fuel compensation maxed out which indicates a lean condition. Using a flammable Carb cleaner and the engine running I sprayed around the vacuum hoses until the idle picked up. I found a rubber elbow that connects to the bottom of the intake maniflold and feeds vacuum to the PCV valve. Replacing the the elbow with a suitable replacment from the auto part misc parts cards display had it running smoothly and the O2 sensor switching properly. Since this was happening at idle it was not the fuel filter which can cause a lean condition in upper rpms. It is not the MAF or the O2 sensor since it switches when not at idle. Also check the smaller vacuum lines that go to the evap control from the intake vacuum ports (back of manifold just below the throttlebody, most will be cracking if your car is anything like mine. I have also seen this problem with a bad PCV valve.

02ford escort engine light on 123000 mi. code is #1 injector lea

there may be a second o2 sensor you have to replace, there are usually 2, an upflow, and a back flow. other then that i would take it to autozone and have a free check engine test run. they will tell you what the problem is

Check engine light on,idols rough, fine at all other speeds.

It either has a vacuum leak or a dirty MAF. To test for vac leaks spray the engine with carb cleaner to see if the engine speed changes., if it does you fond the leak. The most common leak is pcv line coming straight off the back of the throttle body. Check there first. Also check to make sure there are no air leaks between the throttle body and the mass air flow. Don't replace the idle speed motor or the tps, they won't fix it. It is possible the o2 is the problem, but it usually isn't. P0107 Is usually always from the stuff i listed above.

I decided to check the idol air control valve, when I removed it I found the problem right behind it. The P C V valve hose was just about into where it fastens to the intake, the other end was bad also. Cost me aout $6.00 Where auto parts stores were telling me parts would cost two or three hundred $$.
