Ok now it looks as if the whole transmission needs to come out,can you roughly tell me how to take it out myself. Meaning does it come out from the bottom with the engine supported with a jack, or cherry picker. Do I need any special tools pullers, presses etc. etc. I have a lot of tools and I don't plan to rebuild it if thats what it needs, just removing and replacing it.Anyway I really appreciate the help your all giving me. Thank You again..

You need to drive it with a scanner on it to see if the pcm is commanding 4th. If it is then it likely has a broken driveshaft to the 4th clutch. This is common on both the 4t60 and 4t65. You don't have to rebuild the whole trans to fix it but you do have to remove it from the car and remove the side cover, pump, valve body, and channel plate.

It comes out the bottom. You haft to support the engine from the top with engine support bars, or anything else you can come up with to hold it. Then you haft to remove the cradle from the bottom of the car. If you decide to tackle it, I can tell you step by step how to remove it, let me know. Good luck.

Hello, it can be several things. It could be your brake light switch, next solenoid in the transmission,or the gear selector switch(inhibitor switch) technical term. The automatic transmission can be very hard to diagnose.

Hello, the project you are attempting to take on is going to take you through alot more trouble than you may realize. I myself being in the field for 10 years plus have only taken afew out, but if you want to know I will tell you you will need a good impact wrench.Disconnect the battery. You will have to remove both drive axles, the lower sub frame, you will have to separate the steering rack from the subframe and don't let it come out with the frame, but you need a brace to support both side of the motor. The trans comes out the bottom. Remove the converter bolts, then remove all electrical connections, shifter cable, breather box and pipe, then remove any additional brackets on the transmission. Now you should be ready to remove the bell housing bolts starting withe the ones in back first, look for the hidden bellhousing bolt from the passenger side look just above where the axle came out of the passenger side but near the block just look its there .Its the only one facing the opposite direction than the other bellhousing bolts after you get that one out supporrt the transmission and remove the other 5 I believe. Then you are done. BE CAREFUL! thank you

1999 Nissan Maxima Auromatic Transmission 4th gear electronic overdrive intermittantly slips.

could be a solenoid
low oil
worn overdrive friction discs

you can source a used transmission from a wrecker
and drop that in

from the pictures i cant tell if its overdrive is under an external plate at the end of the gearbox
and repaired with an overdrive kit

My 2001 buick regal ls, will no longer shift into overdrive. all other gears are perfect.tune up, fluid and filter changed and still the same.

I believe that the solenoid that controls the overdrive is accessable from the transmission pan area. The solenoids that control the shifting are located in the side. The 4t65e transaxle has been known to have problems with overdrive for more than one reason though, so start with that solenoid. If that doesn't work, you may have luck with a shift kit. My car used to shift rapidly in and out of overdrive, after I installed a shift kit, I have had no further issues. I used the '4t65e sk' kit from TransGO.

1996 Corolla Auto Transmission problem

Hi. 2005 Corolla CE. It's normal. They tend to do this when upshifting form 1st to 2nd gear. No timing chain readjustment needed.

96 Corolla. Overdrive not working properly, if not engaging after 45mph constantly. If driving on the city, is normal, but not after 45mph, when the car is trying to engage overdrive in order to save gas and preserve the trans gears. If not able to get help at the dealership, find another one and explain them the situation.
