Awful odor when 1st open car door after setting for 15 minutes

Hi, My wife says there is an awful odor (fumes she thinks) when she opens the car after it sets closed up for 15 minutes or so... She is not sure if it dissipates after driving long or if she just gets used to the smell... Needless to say she is not too fond of driving the car too far a distance... The strangest thing about this is that she mentioned this to me about 2 mos ago and it seemed to go away after a few days but now it is back... Any suggestions? Thank you, John

Jlocke, lone99sta, my wife finally found the source of the odor. A small amt of what appears to be transmission fluid somehow had spilled onto the carpet in the cargo area... Thank you for your help...

You should have the computer scanned for fault codes. Many times the engine is running to rich and causes the catalytic converter to overheat. This will cause a rotten egg type smell.
Can you post back with a description of the odor? Does it smell like gasoline or oil?
It also could be a carbon monoxide smell that could be very dangerous, it is a possibility that exhaust fumes are entering the cabin of the vehicle, this could lead to poisoning.
Let me know what you find and if I can assist further. Lone99star

Hi We have a brand new Volvo C30 R design and the wife has been infuriated by the alarm today. She locks the car 10 minutes later alarm goes off. Re set and same again. Opens and shuts doors, boot and...

if its brand new take it back to the dealer and talk to them about it and have them change the alarm settings so it will not do this, its possible that there is a problem with the alarm system itself.

Fumes escaping from ac vents inside vehicle while driving and leaves a film residue on inside of windshield whenever the heat or defrost are used.

Hello dedunwoodie.
Your heater core is beginning to leak coolant.
As the fan blows through it it is picking up the liquid and depositing it on your windshield.
It will need to be replaced to solve your problem.

HVAC vent selector does not function. Air flow is

THe blend door seems to be stuck. When you change settings from defrost to floor air or, vent, the blend door opens and closes directing the air to the place you want it to go to. I have had some success spraying a lubricating oil such as WD40 under the dash on the blend door. You need to get under the dash with a flashlight to locate it. It looks like a flap. Spray it with a couple of shots of the WD40. Go easy on the spraying as you may be inhaling the fumes. Keep the doors and windows open to minimize the fumes. Wait about 1/2 hour and try the A/C functions. (defrost, floor, vent air)

How do we remove the interior ceiling on our '03 Ford Taurus?

The lovely odor may just be the mouse nest, as mice are filthy house keepers. They use their nest for bathroom facilities and never clean house. Not quite sure how to take apart, but a vac. w/ a long slender attachment (for cleaning under refrigerators) may work around the sunroof openings. Try baking soda around sunroof , it will help absorb the odor. Try several applications, leave open box in closed car overnight, vac any u spread around the car. Good luck,

01 mercury villager smell antifreeze inside, no heat.

If it is just an odor I think I would try some cooling sytem sealant. Usually costs about $3 to $5.00. With the engine running and hot with heater on, open the container and pour into the overflow and let engine run for another 15 minutes or so. DO NOT REMOVE THE RADIATOR CAP; YOU MAY GET SCALDED!!!!!!! Do not open the sealant container before you are ready to use it, it hardens quickly.
