Awful odor when 1st open car door after setting for 15 minutes

Hi, My wife says there is an awful odor (fumes she thinks) when she opens the car after it sets closed up for 15 minutes or so... She is not sure if it dissipates after driving long or if she just gets used to the smell... Needless to say she is not too fond of driving the car too far a distance... The strangest thing about this is that she mentioned this to me about 2 mos ago and it seemed to go away after a few days but now it is back... Any suggestions? Thank you, John

Jlocke, lone99sta, my wife finally found the source of the odor. A small amt of what appears to be transmission fluid somehow had spilled onto the carpet in the cargo area... Thank you for your help...

You should have the computer scanned for fault codes. Many times the engine is running to rich and causes the catalytic converter to overheat. This will cause a rotten egg type smell.
Can you post back with a description of the odor? Does it smell like gasoline or oil?
It also could be a carbon monoxide smell that could be very dangerous, it is a possibility that exhaust fumes are entering the cabin of the vehicle, this could lead to poisoning.
Let me know what you find and if I can assist further. Lone99star

Put two cups of bleach in it and run it on a long and hot wash. The best way to stop the odor is to use it regularly and leave the door open for 15 minutes after you use it so it can dry out a bit. There will always be some water in the bottom in the pump.

I smell gas occasionally. Doesn't seem to be any leaks anywhere. the check engine light comes on occasionally, then goes off.

I wish I could be sure and say its the evap hose or the charcle canister that collect gas fume a sends it to the intake for fuel, but in your case you just bought it, be safe take it to a shop let them inspect the vehicle for your concern

Their is an odor of gas coming from the drivers side of the vehicle. I don't see any leaking fuel at all! What is the problem.

There is gas, somewhere, investigate until you have it solved. MEanwhile you are a fire hazard. think about it, it is the FUMES that burn....

Look closely at all lines, hoses, fuel tank, carbon canister, etc. Do not stop until you have found something, or surely you will have a fire, eventually.

And excess emissions that are not necessary.

Fumes escaping from ac vents inside vehicle while driving and leaves a film residue on inside of windshield whenever the heat or defrost are used.

Hello dedunwoodie.
Your heater core is beginning to leak coolant.
As the fan blows through it it is picking up the liquid and depositing it on your windshield.
It will need to be replaced to solve your problem.

66 six cyl 200 mustang just had coil resistor wire from distributor repaired because of stalling problem. I spliced two resistor wires together. Worked great. I knew I had fixed this because wire did...

Make sure carb float isn't loose or sinking on you. This might not be it,but I've had that happen, flooding engine.
Probably the wire you fixed needs fixed correctly, but I'd replace condenser and coil and coil wire to dist. cap, making sure also that ponts didn't slip closed. don-ohio

This exhaust odor blows out of the defrost and the dash vents

Hello. It is very important that you have your vehicle put up in a lift and have the exhaust system checked as there must be a loose connection or a hole in it in order for the exhaust fumes to be entering the interior cabin of your vehicle. This is a potentially serious problem as carbon monoxide fumes are poisonous. Regards, Joe
