Battery drain on 1990 Ford Tempo

My mechanic removed my alternator and said he rebuilt it.  He wanted too much to re-install so we decided to install ourselves. The car ran for one night but the 'amp' light came on and would turn off when the brakes were applied.  Next morning the battery was dead.  Bought a new battery and discovered a BIG drain on the battery.  We pulled the fuses, one at a time, to test for the drain but there was no change in drain on the battery.  Any idea as to what might be draining the battery?

Thanks...tried that already and car kept running

Thanks, I truly appreciate your thoughts on the subject  Turns out that my mechanic either didn't actually rebuild the alternator or didn't succeed in doing so. Took the alternator to a parts store to have them check it and was told it was 'complete junk'.

Got a 1990 ford taurus and new battery and new alternator but still has 3 amps of draw .what controls the alternator? the wire to it ...

Unfortunately if it was a rebuilt alternator it may have one bad diode causing it to bleed amps and drain the battery. With rebuilds this happens a lot these days. Either have the diodes tested or demand a different alternator under warranty.

Replaced starter, solenoid and battery on my 88 tempo. Started fine that day next day dead battery any suggestions?

Check voltage regulator. Also try to see if anything is possibly draining the batt while not running. Is the alternator charging at the right voltage? Do not remove terminal from batt to check alt. this can burn out a diode in the alt.

1990 ford tempo starts but will die after about 10 minutes. the power from the battery is drained and we just bought a brand new battery for it.

Try to start again, then when the engine is start, remove the negative or positive battery cable, and if the engine die, the alternator is failed., and if not dying, alternator still good. But for me the way you said, I'm 100% your alternator is died. Need to replace a new one. And if you know how to solder, just remove and replace the brusses( carbon) by soldering. ok

How do you clear the service engine light on a 1993 ford tempo?

simple. remove the positive (or negative) battery cable for about 10 seconds.
bigger problem is why it's coming on in the first place- but most of the time it's simple- go to an autozone or other parts store and they can likely help you determine what's the problem. Then you can decide if you want to do it yourself or hire it done.

Battery draining fast

I would check the alternator again, it apparently isn't charging the battery with engine running. You need a volt meter or amp meter to test this. Also does the battery discharge when the car is not running?
