Question about 1984 Toyota Tercel

1985 Toyota Tercel Wagon

The transmission on my tercel went about a year ago. Smashed off the skid plate flying down an old logging road and the fluid ran out on me and i hadn't noticed and..well you no, seized it. Ive been looking hard for a new tranny and i found a 1984 toyota tercel wagon online here for $125, the guy says it runs great but it needs the alternator replaced, which is no big deal for me. I am just wondering if i could take the tranny out of that one and install it on mine even though it is a year older. I have the five speed 4WD tercel. Im not sure about this one, but just wondering if its the same model number and if it would fit/work? Any help would be apreciated greatly, let me know what you know or found out:P Thanks.

Call a local Wrecking yard and ask them what the interchange is. I know there are some ratio differences between the years. And you have to match the front and rear tooth for tooth.

Have a 1985 tercel, where and how do I check and or fill the clutch fluid?

Reservoir should be on the firewall near the brake M/C. Look for a little cup like in pic below with a tube coming out the bottom. That tube goes to your clutch M/C as you can see in the photo.

Where do I fill the transmission fluid on an 1985 toyota tercel?

Same place you check the fluid level on an A/T equipped vehicle. On a manual transmission equipped vehicle there is a plug on the upper side of the transmission that must be removed the check the level and add lube.

I need to know how much transmission fluid a 1985 toyota tercel takes so as not to over fill

How much you drained out is a pretty good indication However start with 3.5 litres and go from there Make sure you check dipstick with motor running in neutral

1986 toyota tercel won't idle after the engine warms up.

vacuum leaks in these old cars are frequent you need the vacuum lines replaced they become porous and are extensive, also the timing must be tweaked to 10 degrees instead of the recomended 5 degrees as long as the car does not ping going up hills this is a essential modification to OEM recommendations I own a 1985 4wd station wagon replace the O2 sensor 35 bucks
