Question about 1992 Lexus Ls 400

1 Answer

Refuses to start even with a jump/new battery etc..

1992 LS400 -
While driving on a busy highway the car started to lose power...the more I gave it gas the slower it went. Ended up having it towed on a flat bed to my house. The car will not take a jump nor will it start with a brand new battery. Is there a shut off switch that I need to flip in order to get this car started? Like a fuel shut-off or transmission switch or something? An "in line" fuse kinda thing....I just hope it is that simple!

It cranks but won't fire? Possible Fuel pump. Do you have access to a fuel pressure gauge?

I have a 1994 lexus ls400 while driving the dash lights start flickering then car loses all power I replaced the starter alt and battery any solutions?

You may want to check out the ignition switch. The starter and battery should not be considered as even a possibility because the car starts. If the alternator is not producing enough voltage or amperage it could cause a similar problem, but the lights would dim and then go out.

I have a 97 lhs I overheated so I replaced the thermostat and the radiator..I was driving down the highway and my temp was hot it started to lose power and shut off..now when I try to start it..sounds like...

Is the radiator still full of coolant ? Are you saying the engine will not crank ? Have you pulled the spark plugs and checked for coolant in the cylinders ?

Refuse to start when hot smelling feul, will start when cool down ideling at1500 rpm.

Its a hot start issue.

Can be related to low fuel pressure or problem with crank sensor.

Also it can be weak battery or starter.

But possibilities are to be inspected to confirm what exactly it is.------

Car is completely dead, like somebody shot it dead! No sounds, no light, can't shift out of park into neutral or anything....everything completely dead...no warning whatsoever!

Always clean the battery terminals before jumping. An extremely dead battery may not accept a jump as it serves as a 'buffer" instead of helping. If you do get it started, charge battery with a battery charger then have alternator and battery tested for proper operation and check belt condition and tension as well.

there are a few diodes in the electrical system that have been blown.  Some are in the dash and some are in the different control modules in the car.  Your insurance should pay for this problem.

The most likely problem is your alternator, the alternator charges your battery while the engine is running, if the alternator is bad you have a dead battery, but you can check with a volt meter to ensure that is your problem. Start your car (use a battery charger or jump to start it if you need to) and put your meter on the battery post's. If your reading 13volts or so your alternator is working and maintaing voltage, however if your reading starts dropping to 10 or less(may take a few moments to drop) then it's probably your alternator. You can also check your battery's voltage before starting your vechile, if the voltage increases after you start the vechile then it seem to be charging. Alternators can be repalced somewhat easily, it's only two boltsm however you do have to remove the fan belt, and re-route after installing the new alternator. If you have some expirence working on cars you can do this yourself in your driveway.
Good luck

Here's a start for you, hope this helps
