Question about 1992 Volkswagen Cabriolet

1 Answer

1992 Cabriolet vibrates and pulls to the right.

My 1992 Cabriolet vibrates while driving slowly (10mph +/-), and higer at speeds (70mph+). Also it vibrates when i apply the brakes, especially from 50mph+. Don't have anything to do with the engine I think, because it still vibrates if I hold the clucth in. It also pulls to the right when i let go of the steering wheel, and if i try holding the wheel straight it will pull to the right. I've checked the tire pressure, but everythings correct there. The tires are old hakkapeliitta winter tires with spikes. car is lowered.

Could all this be caused just by the wheels/alloys?

HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR FRONT END SUSPENSION AND ALSO WHEN BRAKING AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT IT MIGHT BE A CALIPER AND OR DISC ROTORS. HAVE THEM CHECKED AT A LOCAL SHOP THAT DOES LATHE WORK.

It very well could be the strut.
smaller chance could be the CV axle.
Also have the splash guards/heat shields checked to make sure they are all tight in place.

If it is only on certain speed and goes away if you drive over/less 70mph, try to do wheel balance and see if it helps.

After driving at 70mph for about 10 minutes, I get a humming/vibration, feels like something is dragging, no side to side pull.

I am having the same problem. It only does it at higher speeds & sometimes not at all. I had a front wheel bearing assembly done, 2 rear tires, differential fluid redone & it still does it. HELP?

I have a 1992 VW Cabriolet about 3 000 rpm it

The vibration at that high rpm is most likely coming from the torque convertor and if a manual transmission , then clutch issues.

Lowering back seat in a 1992 VW Cabriolet

There is a seat realease in the trunk, on the drivers side you pull out, it's round. There is a strap to pull the seat down, feel in between the seat and trim panel... they sometimes break off so yours may not be there.

Vibration

It sounds like a possible bad front wheel bearing they will make like a humming or growling noise. The pull could be air pressure a little lower in the right front tire than the left front check the air in all tires and if pull is still there take the left front put it on the right front and put the right front tire on the left front.Sometimes tires get what they call radial pull and that will fix it or make it go the other way if it goes the other way either get new tires or put the back tires on the front of the vehicle and put the front tires on the back.

Transmission speedometer problem

This all can be caused by a defective Vehicle Speed sensor, also called a VSS, also run a test on the computer to see if any codes are in memory that will help to sort this problem out.
