Question about 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier

Head Lamps are acting funny

Just bought a 98 Cavalier. When my day times are on, both low and highs are on but dim. When I turn on my head lights, the driver side comes on as should with the exception of the high coming on real dim along with the pass side. Both low and high on pass side come on real dim. What can I do to fix this?

Check your grounds. Hit them with a little sandpaper where they bolt to the chassis.Good Luck

How to turn bright lights off on 2003 cts

Could be a bad dimmer switch or a stuck high beam relay or the ( DIM ) dash integrated module .
Headlamp Low or High Beams Always On

2

  1. Turn the headlamp switch to the OFF position.
  2. Verify that the transmission shift lever is in the PARK position for vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions or the parking brake is applied for vehicles with manual transmissions.
  3. Expose the sunload sensor to a bright light.
  4. Turn the windshield wipers to the OFF position.
  5. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Are the head lamps ON? YES or NO

3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn the headlamp switch to the OFF position.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the Head Lamp Switch parameter in the Dash Integration Module (DIM) Inputs data list.
Does the scan tool indicate that the Head Lamp Switch parameter is OFF?
I would think you probably don't have a GM Tech 2 factory scan tool , this is a very involved diagnostic flow chart an you can't diagnose it very easily without the factory scan tool . You could replace parts an get lucky . I would start with the high beam relay in the under hood fuse / relay center . Do you know what a relay is , not to talk down to you because I don't what you know . The relay is energized by the DIM - dash integrated module . You may want to take this to a ASE certified repair shop or the dealer !
I would

No headlights on dim only work on bright

old post.(day)
low beams, they are.
both low beam lamps.dead but are PARK/tail dead too?. (a key fact needed here to save time finding cause)
there are more that one cause.
but fuses are first, some cars have 2 fuse.
one for highs and lows.
or for left and right.
they do that so at least some lights work and not all go out at once, on a dark rainy night on a country road (or cliff road)
GEO, the car brand GEO is sold mostly in USA and Canada
if in CANADA the law says its DRL lamps.
in canada they have a Drylight Running lamps and laws and have a unique controller for that (DRL module) and can fail and mess up lamps. so GOT DRL>?
on this car the fues box shows, left and right HL
the next question is does it run a relay.
answer,
DRL, the DRL module runs low beams totally so that be first.
and its DRL relay.
non DLR metro, works like this
im reading the online schematics for you, and so could you.
the no-DRL is brutally simple.
the fuse runs the lamps direct, means lamps hot all the time.
the park and head light switch, grounds the low beam wire feed.
no relays , magic , DRL just a simple switch, in the combo switch.
for you or others seaching Metro head lamps.
here is the schemo.
red/wht wire must be 0v on low beams if not switch bad.
if g200 is good, but g200 is used in highs so can NOT BE BAD.
as you can see the switch grounds the HL lines below.
to make the lamps GLOW,

Head lights dims out

old post day, Geo underdogs.
is engine running, seem yes, pretend yes...
high and low beams dim (means weak not low or high beams)
dim bulbs. all elements, left and right sides?
well first is battery voltage
use a $10 walfart DMM meter., (set to volts)
13.3. to 15vdc is the voltage running, on a hot engine rpm is 700+
RPM not 400. so, if all that is good, the ALTERNATOR IS doing its job, yes, the regulator is inside the alternators and changes voltage , by SENSING batteries needs, and sensing driver added loads, (accessories)
so if battery voltage is good, the what is it,
well that is easy head lamp failure
got DRL do you have the infamous, and pesky DRL daylight running lamps as the law requirements in CANADA,
next time say DRL or canada, ok?

if all lamps are dim on the HL,
the the ground to them are bad.
there are 4 bulbs , 2 high 2 low, all for dim is bad ground there.
the Headlamp relay sends 12vdc to all 4bulbs, and most read 12v or more.
the lamps are grounded by the HL combo switch on THIS car
the ground must be good to this switch 0v, HL onl.
or the ground is bad. a white/black wire called G200
if 12vdc is weak (low) to HL then the relay or wire to it are bad.
if the ground is not 0v, (no more than 0.5vdc) then the ground is bad. if the ground is good, then the HL switch is bad and if bad gets hot and smell... (melting plastic in side)
there is the full answer, sans DRL> (a longer story that)

Dashboard light go in and out

incredible, is car running or not?
EG: key on only.
EG key on end running.
Gee! pretend the helper is blind, we are..
there are 2 kinds CLUSTER of lights
1: WARNING LAMPS. (all com on keyon as test)
2: AND PARKING LAMPS. that can be dimmed....
3: and gauges they too use CLuster power so....

which ones.?????????? name all lamps and bad.
does engine run??????????
do head lamps work and not be dim?

we need all lamps that work and not.
both.
your car electronic tech, would see all this in 5 minutes work , I say let them'! not me im retired.
A primary test, for power.... (works key off too)
if head lights are dim or fail?, or act odd
that is a dead/week battery (or just discharged)

or just ignoring the terminal lug cleaning service steps. (that is a top failure, "A1" failure.

also modern cars with lots of computers!
they all go very crazy, with low battery voltage.
use a thing called a voltmeter to check system volteges. battery is 12.6vdc rested.
even the $10 walfart, meter works. here. prefect.

and running, 13.3 to 15vdc good. is it?

We have the day time running lights working but no high beam license plate or running lights. There appears to be a short or an inline fuse please we need some advice,

There is a relay and a fuse you need to check in your hood compartment fuse box. Check under parking lights, head lamps L & R Low Beam and Head Lamps L & R high beam. You will definitely have one blown. Its a cheap fix so get her done. Good luck.

you might not have the leads hooked up right, or either the fuse is blown, check them.
