Spark plugs Vortec Motor: I would like to learn how to pull the spark plug wires from spark plugs without any damage to the plug. There appears to be heat sheilds covering the bottom of the each plug wires. I would appreciate any assistance or advise you can give in the matter. ASAP Thanks in advance. Richard

Just pull the wire off the plug, it wont damage the plugs. It may feel like they wont come off or feel like you are going to break something, but don't worry, they essentially clip onto the plug. When you install the wires onto the plugs, you have to actually push fairly hard until you hear a click. If they are loose or come off easily, that is actually not a good thing.

You have to remove the air box that says VORTEC on it, then you will see the coils packs for each spark plug. Remove each coil pack to get to plugs.

Locate spark plugs on GM Vortec 4200 engine

that engine has the plugs on the side of the motor. Both sides. There is a spark plug wire running to them. Unless its the inline motor in that case they are in the center of them motor under the coil packs.

K1500 1999 Vortec 350. Weak spark causing motor to flood. Suddenly spark gets brighter and the motor starts right up. It takes forever to get to that point though. Any thoughts?

another issue that causes flooding in the Vortec 350 ( which, I assume you have) is the fuel injection spider. The spider assembly also contains a fuel pressure regulator if faulty can allow too much fuel to pass through the injectors fouling the plugs (a common problem), While your in the upper intake you might as well take care of your lower. A leaky inner seal on the lower intake can cause out to ceep in to your heads causing a faulty spark.

If the plug appears melted, likely you will need to at least partially destroy it to get it off. Sometimes a little wd40 will help. Make sure you draw a picture of where the wires go so if you do damage it you can still attach the wires without the plug. If you need to do that use heat shrink tubing or tape around each connector to prevent any possibility of a short to ground.

Just pull hard, it does seem pretty tough, but you won't damage anything as long as its a hard consistent pull. Don't TUG, but pull increasing the pressure until it comes out. It needs to be a snug fit in there to keep debris/moisture etc from getting to your spark plug!
