Question about 1996 Chevrolet Suburban
Just pull the wire off the plug, it wont damage the plugs. It may feel like they wont come off or feel like you are going to break something, but don't worry, they essentially clip onto the plug. When you install the wires onto the plugs, you have to actually push fairly hard until you hear a click. If they are loose or come off easily, that is actually not a good thing.
