Question about 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser

2001 pt cruiser gearbox not smooth

Manual gearbox problems...
When I change gear (most noticeable from 2nd to 3rd), it doesn't slide in smoothly. It is hard to find the gear and it sticks to the sides of the slot. almost metal on metal feel.
does it need to be lubricated better?
What do I need to do?
is it expensive to change the whole thing?
thank you!

Ok, now I feel like it might be a clutch problem... It feels like the pedal is not going far enough. I think if I could push it another 2 inches passed the floor, it might give me a smoother transition. Could I just get the clutch to be tighter? So it disengages the gear earlier in the course.

    Somebody help!

OK, if it's a cluth probelm then you either need a new clutch, or it's a problem with the slave cylinder. I've even heard if as simple a problem as the bolts holding the slave clynider coming loose, so when you press the clutch, the slave actually moves. If you're having troubles getting it into gear (metal on metal) your shift linkage bushings could be worn. There are 2 on the shifter end, and 2 on the transmission end. I recommend replacing them with a more solid bushing from ****** Racing ( that will give a much more confident feel than the stock rubber bushings.

Automatic transmission takes to long to change gears and it doesn't change gears smoothly. What could be the problem?

not sure on model but check the oil level as this is the most common cause of slipping and not changing gear hope this helps ivan

2nd gear is a bit hard when it goes in.... 1st and 3rd are smooth

Change gearbox oil, your car might not have had this performed in 15 years. If the problem is still there, then the 2nd syncro is worn. Replacement isn't as bad as it sounds, but would need a weekend and a few tools. Might even be worth fitting new gearbox if you prefer not to open the gbox, look in a breakers yard.
