After the straps are off ,it should drop a few inches about eight or so ,than you should disconnect the two lines beside the fuel filter that run to the fuel pump, than you should disconnect the third one at the fuel pump, than once complete slowly pull the tank to the passenger side of vehicle,it will take a little foce but will come,it really helps if you could get the vehicle up about a foot or more before starting and you should have more than enough room to pull tank and fuel pump out, undo the two plugs than you have to turn the locking plate counter clockwise thats on top of fuel pump to get the pump out and if taking the tank right out disconnect the main line for fuelling

you will have to disconnect all fuel lines at the tank, electrical connections, vacuum lines, fuel filler neck at the tank, support the tank and undo the fuel tank straps and lower the tank. undo the tank unit lock ring and remove the fuel tank unit then you can replace the fuel pump.
inside fuel tank has to be drop from under rear of car with floor jack with block of wood supporting tank after removing gas tank straps slowly lower tank and unhook wiring and fuel lines , remove lock ring and pull pump out of tank.. but first check fuel pump relay first
On most these, there are two tank straps which are bolted to the undercarriage which hold the tank in position. It's easier to do with the tank empty or very close to empty. Place something under it to support it such as a jack and remove the bolts holding the tank straps in place, that should let the tank drop out, then you can remove the connections for fuel and electrical.
The fuel pump is located in your fuel tank...you have to drop your fuel tank to replace it...before you do so you will have to sifion [sp] most of the gas out as gas is heavy...when you get out all you can leave the gas cap off and remove the bolts holding the filler neck in place...Then jack up vehicle and place on jack stands....Remove battery ground cable,go under and remove sheild covering fuel tank, while there remove the ground strap attached to the filler neck...Once the cover is off this will expose the 2 tank holding straps.....at this point you will need a jack or holding and lowering devise to support the gas tank..... make sure it is supported well before you loosen the strap bolts!!!! disconnect the EVap hose from canister it runs to tank then remove the strap bolts ...move them aside and lower the tank enough to expose the top where the fuel lines are disconnect them and the electrical connector, ground ...then lower gas tank slowly checking nothing is still hooked to it ...After the tank is down remove it from under vehicle and use a BRASS punch or piece of wood not a regular metal punch to remove the pump retaining ring ...once ring is removed CAREFULLY remove the pump from the tank.....replace pump and new strainer... Then Carefully put the pump back in the tank...if needed replace the ring seal before you place the pump back in...tighten up the retaining ring ....take back to car and put on supporting devise and lift just high enough to reattach all your connectors...then jack up the rest off the way attach holdings straps ,cover, ground ******** filler neck, filler neck bolts, battery cable install gas cap and start hopfully
Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
Shift the vehicle into NEUTRAL and position it on a hoist.
Release the fuel pressure.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the fuel tank filler cap.
Drain as much fuel from the tank as possible.
Using suitable hose pinching pliers, clamp the fuel tank filler hose.
Clamp the fuel tank filler hose in the location shown
Disconnect the three quick connect couplings from the fuel tank tubes at the tank.
Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
Disconnect the fuel filter inlet tube from the filter.
Position a suitable lifting device under the fuel tank.
Remove the two fuel tank support strap bolts.
Lower the fuel tank to access the fuel pump module while swinging the fuel tank support straps away from the tank.
Clean the area around the fuel pump mounting flange.
Disconnect the fuel pump module electrical connector and the fuel pump module fuel outlet tube.
Using the special tool, turn the fuel pump module retaining ring counterclockwise and remove it.
CAUTION The fuel pump module must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm, filter and convolute hoses.
Turn the fuel pump module counterclockwise and the fuel pump module will release from the locking tabs. Remove the fuel pump module from the fuel tank.
Install the fuel pump module in the fuel tank.
Connect the fuel pump module electrical connector and the fuel pump module fuel outlet tube.
Raise the tank into position and install the mounting strap bolts. Tighten the bolts to 26 ft-lbs (35 Nm).
Connect the fuel lines and electrical connectors at the fuel tank.
Lower the vehicle and refill the tank.
Connect the negative battery cable.
Turn the ignition key to the ON position to pressurize the fuel system.
first drain the tank, with the car jacked and a stand under the tank remove the two straps, lower the tank slowly not enough to pull on the lines, remove the fuel lines and disconnect harness, clean around the sending unit , with a hammer and soft drift remove the ring that holds the sending unit in, remove the unit carefully careful not to bend the float arm, replace the pump and reinstall in reverse order use new screen and o ring
first take gas cap off to allow vapors out unbolt the traps off the tank have a jack under the gas tank to hold it up.when straps are off make sure to remove the wire's off the top going inside to tank.then slowly lower tank down then pull it out from under car then get a hammer and a screw driver flat head use this to slide the lock on top to remove it then pull out the pump and replace with new then put back on.
on a dodge neon the fuel pump is in the SIDE of the tank... NOT the top. to remove the pump follow these steps... ******* first unplug battery and remove ******** 1. unbolt passenger side tank strap and lower side of tank. 2. a. if tank is plastic, CAREFULLY unscrew plastic retainer ring but do NOT remove. b. if metal tank, unscrew metal retainer flange but do NOT remove 3. unplug electrical connector and fuel line from pump. move aside. 4. completely remove retainer BE CAREFUL not to disturb pump. 5. have drain pan or wide-shallow bucket available to collect gas. (if tank is full this will need to be able to hold 7-8 gallons) 6. gently twist and pull pump out till gas comes fourth. catch gas in pan/bucket. 7. remove pump when gas stops flowing. 8. install is reverse of removal. 9 BE CAREFUL not to wrinkle gasket or lose gasket into tank when installing or the tank will leak around pump. 10. tighten retainer but DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. 11. reconnect plug and fuel lines check for leaks. 12. reattach tank strap and fasten 13. refill tank with clean gas. check for leaks. 14. put battery back in. connect battery, start your neon and check for leaks one last time. 15, have fun. this will take about 4hrs to do by yourself with proper tools.
To replace the fuel pump u must remove the gas tank from the car, to do this u need to have the car as high off the ground as poss, a floor jack and safety jack stands are a must, after u have the car in the air and secured on jack stands put the floor jack under the gas tank and apply light pressure to support the tank, position it between the two metal straps that secure it into the car, remove the bolts or nuts that hold the metal straps at one engine and drop the tank down far enough to disconnect the electrical connector and the fuel and vapor lines and the fill and vent lines, then carefully lowe the tank and bring it out, remove the retainer that holds the fuel pump module in the tank, pay attention to the position of the tank fuel pump module for proper installation of the new fuel pump module, reverse above, in all about a 3-4 hour job with a helper.
the pump is in the gas tank siphon the gas out and remove the straps holding the tank(you will also need to remove the three screws holding the filler neck to the truck box under the filler door.)as you drop the tank you will also need to unplug the wiring to the top of the tank and the fuel lines they are usually plastic clips, but if this has been done before and the clips got broken from the first time they could have put clamps in place of the clips.I have found it much faster to remove the truck box itself and that way you don't have to drain the tank and it stays stationary while you RandR the pump with less chance of breaking anything. Also did you double check the fuel pump relay under the hood in the relay box,I would start there first. Hope this helps good luck.
