It sounds like your serpentine belt broke. Pop the hood and see if there is a belt on the pulleys. The serpentine belt drives the power steering pump, alternator, water pump, and air conditioning compressor. DO NOT continue to run it until you get the belt replaced. The engine will overheat and you could do substantial damage. The air bag light is probably on because the electrical system is not charging without the alternator turning.

So what did it turn out to be???

  • Fahr Quad Mar 18, 2009

The power steering on a 2004 is by way of a hydraulic pump. There is no fuse or relay coil associated with the power steering. If the serpentine belt is intact, check the pump. A re-manufactured pump from ClearlyAuto.com is $42.86, not including core charge and shipping.

Power distribution issue?

Bad fuse box or power center. The reason you have difficulty steering is power steering pump is not coming on. The abs and air bag light are on because of a fault in system. Windows don't work because of no power going to system with all this happened at one time a bad fuse box is most likely the cause

How do i reset an airbag code 19?

I assume you are counting the air bag light flash, If so light flash 19 is for an drivers side air bag circuit, problem which could be low resistance, circuit open ,short to voltage short to ground. and cannot be cleared or reset until the concern is corrected.ford motor vehicles air bag light will go out when concern is no longer present but will remain in memory, I would start by inspecting wiring under dash going up to steering wheel ,the air bag connector is located just to right of steering column when sitting in the drivers seat after removing the trim panel below the steering column and is a yellow connector, Please use caution when connecting or disconnecting any connectors to air bag system ,battery should be disconnected for min of ten min's prior to attempting any work on air bag curcuits. I have seen many problems in the past with the air bag itself also with the clock spring ,question does the horn, cruise control and steering wheel controls for audio system (IF SO EQuIPPED) work properly? if not there is very possibly a clock spring problem

OBD11tech thinks I have a bad clock spring on my 1999 jeep cherokee classic due to my horn not working & the air bag light stays on. Where is the clock spring & how do I change it?

it's inside the steering wheel
must be careful, because of the air bag.
disconnect the battery and wait for 10 minutes for the air bag capacitor to discharge power.
remove the air bag module from the steering wheel
remove the center nut, then steering wheel
the clock pring is a yellow round piece that fitted inside the steering column. there is a snap ring hold the clock spring in place. disconnect the wiring then remove the clock spring.

Air bag fault

In my opinion there might be a problem of wiring after changing the indicator console as there is connection problem of air bag in steering wheel. If there is a loose connection for any air bag the light goes on. You have to recheck the wiring and any loose connection for your air bag of steering wheel. But be sure to disconnect the battery terminals before you try to find out any fault in this area.

If a concern is detected, the air bag control module will communicate by flashing the warning indicator. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is logged by the air bag control module in a nonvolatile memory. For additional information, refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section.
