If your hatch opens by itself with a push of a button, you will have to replace the door open and close motor located in the left rear of car. If your hatch is manual, you will just have to replace the hatch struts.
I too had an issue with my rear hatch. My father in law cut a huge hole in the plastic only to find out there is a manual operation hole behind one of the carpeted panels in the hatch. You simply move the latch with pliers.
Open roof latch over windshild.
Raise rear of roof off of hatch
Lift little hatch tabs to access lift mechanism
Release latches on each side with fingers
Lift Hatch with free hand
Let roof fall into storage compartment
Click hatch shut.
Reverse proceedure to put back up.
ive got a 07 equinox and the rear hatch wont open as of yesterday. on the inside of the hatch there is an access plug you can pop off and inside you'll see a metal switch with a hole in it. if you push it away from yourself, it will unlatch it. i dont know why the hatch wont open as ive checked the fuse and its ok.
