Question about 1997 GMC Safari

1999 GMC Safari Van when engine starts i get a hi squealing noise. The needle on the alternator gauge on the dash jumps up and down.when the noise stops the needle stays steady in the Plus side.

Takr the belt off and turn the alt by hand you can tell if the bearings are going out it should turn freely and smoth

You don't jump a running vehicle

You shouldn't jumping any of todays
vehicles,always charge the battery

Serpentine belt squealing


Either the belt has stretched, or the tensioner is not keeping it tight.
Or it has oil on it.

sounds like an ignition switch glitch or ignition harness problem can be either depending on the amount of wear and tear with turning on and off of the ignition tumbler or possible chafing or inconsistent short in harness to ignition switch check the ground line up through harness first and check the wiring harness condition

Our 1998 Ford windstar has went all EXORCIST in dash board etc.


at the minimum, since you mentioned all the idiot lights coming on, your alternator is fried. have someone put in a new alternator. if it's still acting up, have someone go over the computer.

Alternator jumps up and down


Have alternator bench tested, could be the alt., test to confirm. Issue could also be bad wiring or faulty gauge cluster.

This rear end needs to be replace or re-built


































This rear end needs to be replaced or re-built. The gears and or bearings are worn/shot. May be able to get a complete rear end from a Junk yard for much less, one in good condition. Good Luck
