Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine, the large nipple that the hose connectes to at the engine is the thermostat cover, pull it off the thermostat is under it.

The ICM is located at the rear of the Throttle control body. Look for where your plastic hose from your air breather connects to the engine at. 1998 ford taurus, i dont have heat. my heater core is fine. yes i have tried to fix it.

This can be a bad thermostat that is stuck open or the heat bypass valve not opening. The bypass valve is located near the firewall and is controlled by the selector on the dash. the thermostat is of course located in the engine. If you check these and the are both ok,then the selector cable is broken or unhooked.

It's an electrical element, so it can go out. Shouldn't be hard to replace. In my 1999 Taurus SE OHV the inertia switch is lining of the trunk on the passenger's side well.
