Question about 1999 Toyota RAV4

Cigarette Lighter Pulled Out

I was using an iPod charger in the car's cigarette lighter, which was fit in pretty snug...almost too snug. I guess from constantly taking it out of the car and putting it back in caused the lighter to become loose. The last time I attempted to remove the charger, it pulled the cigarette lighter right out causing whatever wiring was connected to it to become disconnected.
I attempted to connect the wire back to the cigarette lighter, but it wasn't working. The lighting underneath still works and the connector on the end of the wire that should link up with the lighter is still intact. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?  1999 RAV 4, lighter base came out of the socket, detaching the wires.  How do I fix this?  (The exterior portion of the lighter got harder and harder to remove until the whole thing came out.  Arrrgh!)

Is there an adapter that can be used on a car cigarette lighter for plugging in appliances?

Your best bet is to check on eBay for an adapter - the Asians make all sorts of stuff for cars now & i'm sure there is an adapter out there suited for your purposes. P.S. It may sound silly but are you sure you are using the actual cigarette lighter socket & Not a power outlet socket that many cars are now fitted with as standard?, my phone charger fits the cigarette socket but not the power outlet?, you never know?

Is the cigarette lighter also the plug for cell phone charger?

The cigarette lighter plug should also work for the phone charger as long as the phone charger uses the cigarette lighter style plug(long with two metal contacts on the sides and a button contact on the tip). Most standard car chargers will fit both cigarette and auxillary style plugs.

Charger through cigarette lighter will not work, fuse seems ok

First using multimeter check if there's voltage at the cigarette lighter slot as if there is then the problem is in charger, otherwise check for continuity of Cigarette lighter wiring

Cigarette lighter

There should be a pair of thin metal tabs along the side of the body of the lighter housing. These need to be gently pulled away so that they click underneath the console when inserted.

Cigarette lighter not working properly in Pontiac...

This is a very common issue, either the ground at the back of the lighter socket is pulled off, or more likely the socket is defective, they are very easy to change, u can use a generic replacement from any parts store, the factory part will be at least 2X as much..
