As on all cars, the Ford Ranger must have exactly the amount of fluid to touch the full mark on the dipstick. DO NOT exceed that amount. If you do not have a dipstick, remove the lower fill plug and top off until fluid begins to pour out. if you need an auto tool you can click here: chinasinoy.com
You will open the hood and pull the transmission dipstick out
of the top of the transmission. Wipe the fluid off the dipstick with a
rag and then reinsert the dipstick into the transmission. Then, pull
the dipstick back out and check the fluid level.
Keep in mind that the dipstick has
markings to show you where the low and full points are on the stick.
Hope this helps (remember to rating this free answer).
The fluid level needs to be checked with the engine running, the vehicle on a level surface, and the transmission in park. Remove the Transmission dipstick, wipe clean, and reinsert. Immediately pull it out again and check the fluid level. If it is not where it should be fluid can be added through the dipstick tube. A half a quart can make a big difference in fluid level so start small.
It will take a while for the new fluid to clear out of the tube to get an accurate reading after you add the new fluid.

The oil switch is located on the passenger side of the truck in the back of the engine. Look for the transmission dipstick, then feel for it between the transmission dipstick and the engine block. It is hidden pretty well, but a socket wrench will fit to take it off. The new part uses a 1-1/16 socket, the old part for some reason was smaller, I think 13/16 inch. Hope that helps.
