Question about 2000 Chevrolet Venture

2000 Chevy Venture with a code reading " #1 cylinder missfire"

Lots of problems. Head gasket was replaced. New spark plugs put in. New plug wire put on the #1 spark plug. Does not idol good. Code still coming up.

Remove the large hose that is coming from the air filter at the throttle body. There is a large butterfly inside that is open when you push on the gas pedal. Get some carb cleaner and clean this as good as you can. See if this helps or cures your problem

1995 chevy blazer fouling on number 2 cylinder

with this issue , fouling can mean many things, i,ll assume, & i don,t like assuing at all, ? i,ll assume you mean missfiring inderperforming two different issues, two answers, (1) missfiring ,ok change all plugs and remove and overhaul number two injector, replace it,, (2) fouling,? under performing, this can have a few causes i,ll list all, pressure loss in cylinder due to either worn piston rings or valve seatings, or head gasket,?(a) piston rings, luckily this is probably not the problem as usually all 6 cylinders would be effected, (b) valve seatings , hope its not this as it,s a major opperation involving removing the cylinder head an totally reconditoning it, all valves cleaning and reseating, replacing vavle seals , new head gasket ,inlet manifold gaket , exhaust manifold gasket, a good mechanic can get away with changing only the head gasket, but that ain.t you,unfortunatly, so hope its (a) peter.

I have a 2001 chevy malibu. I am getting a misfire in cylinder 5. I have changed the coil pack and spark plug, and I am still get a misfire code on cylinder 5.

Did you replace the ignition wire? If you have replaced the wire litsen for a vacuum leak if your not sure take a can of wd40 and spray it at the intake manifold gasket if starts to run at a higher rpm your problem is here replace the gasket. Missfire codes are not always spark plugs , coils or wirers.

Cylinders 2 and 3 missfire after replacing head gaskets

did you take a compression check on these cylinders compare to 1 & 4, possible causes for such a symptom are as listed:damaged head gasket between 2 & 3, a cracked cylinder head between 2 & 3, faulty injectors, bad plug wires or coils(direct ignition), a warp cylinder head, intake or exhaust valve are losing compression,damage or sleeping piston rings.

Error code reads #4 cylinder misfire??? possible probs & fixes

I'm assuming your trouble code is P0304 and you have the 5 cylinder engine.
take out the spark plug, does it look normal? No foreign materials on it, like coolant or oil? If it has coolant on it, you have a blown head gasket.

If plug looks ok, put the wire back on the end of it, pull the wires off the other plugs, hold the #4 plug with wire up against the engine to ground the plug threads. Have someone crank the engine while you look for a spark. If no spark, try putting the plug into another wire. If still no spark, plug is bad. If it sparks in another wire, wire #4 or coil #4 is bad. In this last case, you can swap wires with another coil to determine if it's the wire or the coil that is bad.

If #4 plug sparked in wire #4, ignition is working and problem is with the cylinder. Run a compression test on all cylinders. You can borrow or rent the tester. Take all plugs out and screw the tester into each plug hole one at a time. Crank the engine a few revolutions and read the gage. Write down the pressure, release it from the gage and go on to the next cylinder. If #4 comes up short, you have a burned exhaust valve or blown head gasket.

They are the ignition coils, the spark plugs are under them. When you have them off before pulling the spark plugs make sure the holes the plugs are in do not have oil in them, if so you will need new coil boots, plugwires and a valve cover gasket as well.

Head gasket torque specifications and sequense

Left side front cylinder head

Cylinder head bolt torque sequence—3.4L engine

  • Cylinder head by aligning it with the dowel pins
  • New cylinder head bolts coated with a sealant (such as GM 1052080). Torque the bolts in the proper sequence (1-8) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Using a torque angle meter turn the bolts 90 degrees in the proper sequence.
  • Left side exhaust manifold. Torque the bolts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  • Spark plugs. Torque the plugs 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).

  • Right side rear cylinder head:

    Cylinder head bolt torque sequence—3.4L engine

  • New cylinder head gasket
  • Cylinder head on top of the gasket and make certain it is lined up properly with the dowel pins
  • New cylinder head bolts coated with a sealant (such as GM 1052080). Torque the bolts in the proper sequence (1-8) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Using a torque angle meter turn the bolts 90 degrees in the proper sequence.
  • Right side exhaust manifold. Torque the bolts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  • Spark plugs. Torque the plugs 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  • Spark plug wires
  • Exhaust crossover pipe. Torque the fastener to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  • Valve rocker arms and pushrods. Torque the fastener to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm). Using a torque angle meter torque the fastener an additional 30 degrees.
  • Lower intake manifold. Torque the bolts to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
  • Upper intake manifold. Torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

    2001 Kia Magentis engine missfiring , installed

    check new spark plugs for proper gap.
    It may have gotten hit when installing it.check coils second for resistance/firing. sometimes one bank will work fine and the other side will misfire-always replace all together or as a unit. Check
    engine for compression if problem pre existed
    and check for low compression. if 1 cylinder
    has 120 psi and two havepsi below 90 you may have
    a cracked head or bad head gasket.

    1998 windstar 3.0 # 3 missfire code changed wires ,plugs, coil , injector, only code is missfire number three cat not plugged any ideas?

    Head gasket could be blown allowing antifreeze to get into that cylinder and causing the plug to foul. Need to do a compression check and pay special attention to the cylinder at fault for low compression reading. If there is a head gasket bad, the two cylinders beside each other are usually low; also, you should see some drop in antifreeze if this is happening.

    Missfire in cylinder 2

    I assume you know the problem is a misfire in #2 cylinder from checking the diagnostics code. Although these codes can be helpful in narrowing down a problem they lack specific details. In the case there are several possible items that could trigger the engine fault code P0302

    These include:
    • Faulty spark plug or wire
    • Faulty coil (pack)
    • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
    • Faulty fuel injector
    • Burned exhaust valve
    • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
    • Running out of fuel
    • Poor compression
    • Defective computer
    Before you spend any money to resolve this you need to narrow this list down even more. Start by pulling the plug. Do a image web search on "spark plug diagnosis". This will give you pictures of plugs with a variety of problems to compare with yours and give you an indication whether or not the plugs need replacing. Next if possible switch #2 plug wire with another. Make sure you switch both ends (coil end and spark plug end) of the spark plug wire.
    These are the no or low cost options. Beyond these you will need to start replacing items like the Ignition Coil and O2 sensor.
    If you are still having the problem after checking and/or replacing the items listed above, your next step is a compression test on #2 cylinder.
    If you get to this point please repost here with the results with the wires and plugs and I will give you the steps to follow with compression testing.
