Re: iwill drive for about an hour and shuts down
When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? It sounds like its time to change it. When you are driving the dirt inside the filter is moved around and blocks the filter and shuting down the engine. When the truck is stopped of a short time the dirt falls back down to the bottom of the filter and is moved around when you start the truck again starting it all over again.

The emissions problem Should Not cause a shut down, It sounds like the Ign module could still be the problem, (if something happened on instillation, as they are VERY fragile) or possibly the Crank Position Sensor, You should have a Scanner used on it to determine the exact problem or you could end up spending alot of money chasing the problem ? The Ign coil is NOT a common problem with the 3.8
Solved most of this myself. Changed ING. module which solved spark problem. The injectors still would not function, help came from JUSTANSWERS by idenifying a relay tucked between the left headlight motor and the coolant recovery canister. Like the IGN. module, this relays not cheap. I found a $5 dollar used replacement from a self-pull wrecking yard from it's sister car, a 1988 mazda 323.
99grand cherokee ign. system has no dist. its coils, unless its a99 with 98 ign......! you should have afault code, scan it,if its dist. type and what youre saying is right, check the auto shut down relay fuse and circuit,it will cut power to coil, could have broken electrical wire going to coil
