Have you checked the main maxi fuse box in the hood.  If all are good then it sounds to me like a bad dimmer switch.

SOURCE: can't find the turn signal or emergency flasher fuse for 1998

Conrad, up north.
My protege is a '99. The turn signals and hazard flashers use the same flasher unit. It is located under the dash to the left of the steering wheel and above and a bit to the right right of the driver's side fuse box.

SOURCE: 1998 mazda protege check engine light came on

could be a variety of things , it caused by sensors usually failing or wiring issues. the only way to find out why it is on is to bring it to a service station or buy yourself a cheap obd 2 code reader. if you do buy a obd2 code reader, it may not solve your problem because alot of the time it the codes that they give will only help you locate a problem. so depending how technical you are, it will affect if you can solve the problem or not. but some times you can get lucky and it will give you a problem like o2 sensor failure and all you have to do is replace it.

Mazda protege with no dashlight on.

First you must cut the Dimmer wire from your stereo installation.Second, replace the 5amp or maybe the 7amp fuse that blew at the fuse panel near the LEFT foot rest.If you are certain that all the fuses check fine, then go to your MAZDA dealer and purchase a new thumbwheel dimmer control, because the rheostat has burned in your present one.Do not reconnect the dimmer control wire 2 your stereo wiring, because U don't need to.

Brake light fuse keeps blowing Noticed our brake ligths were not working...checked the fuses under the dash and they were fine...checked under the hood and found one blown...replaced it and the brake...

Take a look at the wiring to the brake lights. It is quite possible that over the years one of the wires has rubbed against another enough to short out, causing the blown fuses.

most of the time problems with lights are directly linked to fuses. locate your fuses and check for burned out ones.
