Question about 1987 Nissan 300ZX

Engine surges when accelerating in neutral/fuel guage inaccurate

The fuel guage in my 87 Nissan 300ZX only reads when the tank is full. When it gets about 3/4 or half full it reads empty. Also, when I accelerate in neutral, the rpm's surge. It is never stready. The spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor and fuel filter are all new. It is also a bit hesitant at take off but not much. I'm leaning toward the fuel pump but not sure. Can anyone help?

You have two different problems. first your gauge may have a bad ground or bad sending unit . try fuel injector cleaner as they may be gloged for hesitation .

Usually an indication of Bad fuel, needs a tune up or Slipped Timing. Most likely bad fuel or tune up depending on when the last time you replaced the plugs and wires was. If you have been using the 87 Octane low grade fuel that would cause this or if you happened to get some bad fuel at a station. The vehicle will run on 87 octane but was designed to have a minimum of 89 octane fuel, the mid grade. If you haven't replaced your spark plugs in the last 25,000 miles replace the spark plugs and wires. If you suspect the fuel is the issue you can get injector cleaner or Octane boost and add to a FULL tank of gas to clean it out.

1984 nissan 300zx oils pressure gauge goes to

Sounds like an electrical problem, make sure the ground leads to the engine are good and the battery terminals are clean. It might just be a bad connection in the wiring harness try jiggling the connections to see if it makes the gauges jump when it is running.

You can get to it thru the trunk, take out upholstry, there r 2 sets of wires going to it. Remove the 2 screws to access the top of tank.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am Fuel Problems

The gas guage has a sending unit in the tank attached to the pump, there is a small circuit board on it that has smal"fingers" that send the signal to the guage. These get worn off and thus sends a false reading to the gas guage in the dash. The gas tank must be removed and a new unit put in to solve the problem. I had to do this repair to mine. As for the gas issue, just try pulling the nozzle back out of the filler neck when putting gas in, sometimes the overflow tube gets plugged up and won't allow the air to escape as the gas goes in the tank, making the gas pump think the car is full, pulling the nozzle will allow the air to escape. Hope this helps.
