Lmmfao. take apart the head unit to see whats binding? seriously?! the problem is most likely the anti theft built into the factory radio. if you didnt disable it before uninstalling the factory radio it could trip the security feature and disable your car. i really wish people wouldnt post such ignorant answers or an answer at all if they dont know what theyre talking about!!

Not sure what you mean by a head unit, but best thing to do is to start taking it apart again 'till the key is again free...then look to see what was binding.

What you should start with is to reconnect the wires that were spliced for the relay first putting the vehicle back into its original state. From my experience with these systems esp in the impalas they just dont let you out of theft mode after an overide relay pull. It should start when you reconnect all the original wiring. Then start over with what you want to do

Why wont my vehicle start when there is a lock symbol on the dash?

I had this same problem with my 2004 gmc envoy. Mine was a key problem. I had a 2001 impala that had identical keys that contain a chip that is read by the ignition switch. Both of my keys were near each other on the keyring and when the impala key was to close to the ignition the truck would not start and the light came on that looks like a lock. I took the impala key off the keychain and never had another problem.

My 2005 chevy impala won't start since someone broke into my car

i would say when the person broke into your car they set off the security system which stops the car from starting, the way to reset the security is to put your key into the ignition turn the key until all the dash lights come on and let them stay on about 15 minutes after the 15 minutes have expired turn the key off and wait about 3 seconds and then your car should start. hope this helps.

How do i reinstall the stereo

The instrument panel cover (and therefore the radio bezel) is fastened to the dash frame with snap-clips which cannot be seen with the instrument panel cover installed. To remove the instrument panel cover and gain access to the radio cavity, remove the radio fuse from fuse panel located on the driver's side of truck (the one that has a thumbnail opening and is triangular shaped), visible when you open the driver's door. Then set parking brake all the way down, put key in ignition and turn to "on" but not "start" and put gearshift into "L" position.
The snap-clips are located at the upper right corner, lower right corner, upper left corner, lower left corner and a few places in between, behind the dash cover over the instrument panel. You don't need any tools, just put your fingers on the seam of the dash cover and the the dash body, and pull firmly toward you until the instrument panel cover pops out and GENTLY so as not to break the instrument panel cover, continue until the instrument panel cover is loose from the dash and resting on the steering column. The headlight switch, and 4X4 switch (if equipped) remain in the instrument panel cover and will have to be unplugged to remove the instrument panel cover from the dash completely. This is a snug fit, even with the gearshift in "L".
The aftermarket radio bezel will have two screws at the bottom under the radio on the dash frame. Remove these screws, and remove the aftermarket radio from the radio cavity in the dash. The factory radio has two guide pins on the back, and the electrical connector is made into the radio and again in the back of the radio cavity. Simply slide the factory unit into the radio cavity, firmly seat it into the connector and guide pin sockets, and re-install the two screws you took out earlier.
The instrument panel cover re-installs the reverse of removal, and to seat the snap-clips, simply strike the cover sharply with the heel of your hand over each clip location. The dash will pop right back into place, and you will never know that an aftermarket head unit had ever been in there.

Change ignition cylinder? (lock?)

the new cylinder's key has a different code, so the anti-theft module has to reset to accept that code, with the old cylinder u could program extra keys as long as u had one key that worked, but since that is not the case with a new lock cylinder I think u are stuck with taking it to the dealer, any GM dealer can do this job, call around and try to get a lower estimate. Before having it towed try this work around I found on a car thread on this issue:

1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key. Not sure this will work but it is worth a try.

2005 chevy impala ignition

on some GM cars you couldn't just replace the radio with an after market, because the radio is also part of the computer, controls the theft system and the door locks and much more, you have to buy an extra adapter that bypasses the old module, otherwise it will lock the car down, you should try to put the old unit back in and if the car starts up like it should, if it does you need to go to a larger radio shop and ask for the bypass module for the radio i think its like 60 or 70 dollars
