My 2002 cadillac deville white smoke from exhaust

My 2002 cadillac deville started trembling when I turned it on,about 2 weeks ago.A few days later the service engine message went off.I had a mechanic check it and he said it needed a tune up.So when he was going to do it he said he needed to replace the valve cover gasket. The part hasn't arrived but now there is some white smoke coming out of the exhaust, not excessively though. The car doesn't overheat. It trembles for about ten seconds every time i turn it on.The mechanic doesn't really seem to know what he is doing, and i don't really know much about fixing cars. What does it sound like to you guys?

Head gasket. There is antifreeze seeping into the cyllinder when it's not running. When you start it, it won't fire properly until that water is blown out the exhaust. Once it's gone, in a few seconds, just like you describe, it'll run fine. The antifreeze is then being blown out the exhaust. Re - white smoke.

It might. There will be several hours labour. Phone around for estimates. Have your mechanic do a compression test to be sure that's the problem.

probably one, at the most. Just depends what they have to do.Gaskets won't be much. I would guess $100. Labour is always the killer.

Solution #2 is NO solution. WTF?! If you're trying to crack the head, that's how to do it! This guy should stay faaaar away from cars.

It IS the head gasket, no doubt. Solution 1 is correct but the real solution to fix this problem is that you're going to need "time serts." What happens with these Northstar engines is that the head bolts loosen due to the aluminum heads expanding and contracting with the temperature. It's a VERY common problem with these. The solution requires removing the top end and heads. Then you will need to drill and tap the head bolt holes and insert timeserts (look them up, they a type of heli-coil) They make kits specifically for these. It's very labor intensive and the average cost of repair from an experter will probably range from $1400 to $1800. Good luck

Ive fixed several minor head gasket problems by getting the motor as hot as u can get it then douse the engine with cold water it will make the aluminum swell up and filling the gap hence fixing the leak but if u get it too hot and or use really cold water u may crack the head then ur screwd

Hi! My 1999 Cadillac Deville for about 2 weeks started messaging low refrig-ac-off. Check engine light on!.

When you change your oil is up to you,you set the
months & miles you go. Any car with a reminder
for oil is just a gadget

You were told that your low on a/c refrigerant by the
message

Now the check light related or not has to be addressed,
by checking for codes & diagnosing the effected system

Your a/c system needs repair, not added to, only to leak out
& polute the atmosphere

My 2000 cadillac deville keep running hot when i drive it.the coolant shoots out the coolant tank when i open it.i changed the radiator and the thermostat.i don't think a head is blown cause it dosen't...

OK, check that the 2 fans are turning on when it gets to operating temperature. If not, replace the 3 or so relays that control the two speed fans on your car.If that doesn't solve the problem, then you may have to buy new fan motors and also have the harness replaced if necessary to make it cool reliably.

I had this problem on a 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine that overheated over 157 deg. F and went into its limp mode for cooling the engine off by allowing 1/2 of the cylinders to circulate fresh air into the engine in case all antifreeze would leak out or the car would overheat.

Don't run the Northstar engine too long, more than 45 min. at a time in this limp mode.

Good luck on this repair of your Northstar Engine.

My 1990 Cadillac Deville wont start or engage starter

Sounds like you blew fuse. Fix fuse and borrow a car starting switch they use at car repair shops. As long as you can turn tumbler to on ,you can start using the starting switch from repair shop..There should be a way to run a start button to start car and your off/on key should be OK

No heat after burnt smell

Either your Fan motor is faulty or the fan control resister assembly is burnt out, either of those will cause the smell.

2001 Cadillac Deville problems starting

I have had the same problem and I have come to the conclusion it is the security system. After 3 minutes the car will start so there is nothing wrong with the battery or starter. I have had it to the dealer a few times and they cannot solve it. It may be the locks on the doors and they may not be resetting properly. I have learned to live with it.
