Call ahead and then go to a local autoparts chain. Verify that they can read your OBD1 code. Most can only read 96 and newer OBDII. It may be worth paying the diagnstic fee at a Nissan dealer to find out what your code is. The codes are system specific and take the guesswork out of emissions system diagnosis. Consider this: When was the last time you had a tune up? Worn and out of spec gaps on your spark plugs can diminish performance, yet the car will idle fine without a load on the engine.

well it did you just fill up with gas? it could be a loose gas cap. if thats the problem, it should reset in a few times you start. If not, then take it to a parts store and have them run a code. Should do it for free....then look up the code online

We have a nissan 2002 altima that looses power going up a bit of a hill. It starts ok but the battery doesn't keep the charge and the altinator has been replaced. No power when stepping on the gas...

Please check the throttle valve connections and make sure it's working properly.Since there is no power gain during hill climb, the desired torque is not achieved due to excessive wear of gear tooth or due to the problem with the clutch plate. Please make sure these are properly working.

My 2002 Altima looses power while I'm driving

This just happened to me with my 2002 ended up being the alternator. It would fix itself and then start acting up again. They originally flushed it... carbon buildup...that lasted about a week and then it wouldn't even keep a charge!

My 1996 nissan altima will stat and idle just fine but, when you try to drive it down the road it boogs down and acts like it wants to die. Do you know what would cause this.

a plugged fuel filter can cause this also a defective fuel pump, the other part that can cause this is called a MAF sensor.
