Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima
My 2000 maxima has the same problem, my 02 sensors went out there is two up stream and two down stream, if this is ur problem it will eventually stop running, if its been doing it a while after driving it one day just look under the car, right under the shift it will be glowing bright red, if it is its ur 02 sensors.

I had the same problem with my 99 Subaru Forester and it was caused by oil leaking and getting into the spark plugs. We only needed to remove & clean one of the plugs and then we were running smoothly again. Very well could not be what your problem is but it's worth a shot mentioning.
