Try taking rubber air intake off front of throttle body, and spray WD-40 inside throttle body with plate opened up , for a second or two, stand away, or get in vehicle then try to start & see if it starts & runs for a second or so. If it does, then you have a fuel delivery problem, which I'm guessing it is, if no hum sound at rear when key cycled just to on, not start.

check that the battery posts and terminals are shiny clean and tight. Check that the batteries you use are load tested because it is possible to replace a bad battery with another bad battery.. Lastly pull the starter motor and have the solenoid checked out and check the brushes in the starter for wear and burnt armature.
Just the other day, I finally received the answer to this problem with my '06 Rainier CXL. The front gear pack (in mine) needs to be replaced. Vehicle is driving AWD, all the time. Expensive repair- $1600. Mine has 93+K miles, the engine is in awesome condition. To repair or not to repair... that is my struggle.
have a local mechanic do a pressure test on the cooling system as i think that a vehicle this old could need a new head gasket as they do deteriorate with age especialy on vehicles around the 98 to 2002 era with that funny bonding material that was used
Depending what is causing the light to be on there is some risk of it shutting down. Take it to an auto parts chain store where they will run a computer diagnostic scan for free and they can tell you what is causing the light and what sensor or part is needed to fix it. They can also clear the code causing the light to be on.
