How to remove the center console on a 1992 600SEL?
I need to remove and replace a working climate control module that I bought from a wreck yard. I don't wanna damage the wood finished center console. How to remove it properly and put it back?
I am also trying to replace the climate control module on a 1992 S500. Thanks for any tips on how to disassemble the dash to remove the existing unit and replace with a refurbished module. Mine has the 3 vertical spindles to control the temp and fan.
Thanks, Jim

To remove the center console on a 1999 Mercedes Benz ML 320, you can follow these steps:
Remove the shift knob by twisting it counterclockwise and pulling it up.
Remove the shifter trim panel by gently prying it up with a trim removal tool or a flat-head screwdriver.
Remove the ashtray by pressing the release button and pulling it out.
Remove the screws that secure the center console to the vehicle. There should be two or four screws, depending on the vehicle's configuration. They are located at the front and rear of the console.
Carefully lift the console up and away from the vehicle, taking care not to damage any wiring or connectors.
Once the console is removed, you can access any components that may need servicing, such as the radio or climate control module. When reassembling the console, be sure to reattach any wiring or connectors and secure the console with the screws in their original locations.
This repair is a bit of a pain. It requires patients or you may break the plastic retaining tabs. The entire upper part of the center console needs to be removed. Use care there are plugs that need to be disconnected before pulling it away. The trim ring and cover surrounding the gear selector needs to come off and then you need to remove two screw from the trim that surrounds the climate control module. The two screws are located on both sides down low. You can also watch a video from YOUTUBE. there are a couple that are not that bad. Good Luck.
problem is usually the resistor, but switch may be going bad too. The resistor is next to the blower motor, above the passenger's feet. You may have to take the glove box out to get to it. See picture below. Also, please see my tip athttp://www.fixya.com/cars/r6234839-doesn_t_heater_or_air_conditioner_blow for additional diagnostic info. Please get back to me if you have any questions. REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, Climate Control Panel
Remove the center console trim fascia.
Remove the radio to allow access to reach behind the control panel.
Remove the control panel attaching screws.
Remove the center console bracket, if necessary, to allow for easier removal.
Separate the control panel from the trim panel.
Unplug the harness connectors and vacuum lines from the control panel.
To install:
Plug in the harness connectors and vacuum lines from the control panel.
Install the control panel into the trim panel.
Install the center console bracket, if removed.
Install the control panel attaching screws. Do not overtighten them, as they are screwed into plastic.
Install the radio.
Install the center console trim fascia.
Operate the climate controls and check for proper operation.
You need a Body Control Module for your Cadillac. That item controls the interiors lights amounst other items too. This will be a dealer item unless you perfer a used one from a wrecking yard
I finally replaced the Backlights, using a guide from a person at www.answerbag.com

(i've got an 04 limited. i just soldered in new bulbs for the lighting controls panel (5 #272-1092) and the digital HVAC panel (1 #272-1092 and 5 #272-1154). steering wheel control bulbs are next. )
Just buying a cheap Used one may be the best, if you are not good with dis-assembly and soldering small electric bulbs
Depending on the style you can get a Used One from an online junkyard for 25-50 USD Check LKQonline out.. http://stores.ebay.com/LKQonline
The most difficult part is getting the Climate Control Module out of the dash, to make the soldering new bulbs repair. The wood-grain Bezel needs to come off, BE CAREFULL, its long and flexible and can crack easy if the wrong pressure is applied or its cold outside or cold in the car cab. Its held in the dash with GM friction clips ( pain in the %$#) and 2 Phillpis screws behing Glove Box door. I worked the pull- pressure from the A/C vent on Right, left-ward to the center, and from Steering Column right-ward toward the center.Once the Bezel is removed, the Climate Control Module is seen, with 4 push-tabs on each corner. BE CAREFULL pushing in the tabs....I broke off one as in pushed too hard. Pry out Right side while pushing 2 right-side tabs gently together. Repeat for the Left Side, while pushing 2 left-side tabs together gently. The Climate Control Module should pop out.Use a 3/8inch Nut Driver to remove the headless screws that hold the Climate Control Module PushButton plate to the box. This will expose the Printed Circuit Board for solder replacement of the Bulbs.
