Need a little humor now and then, anyway it sounds like you have a pinion gear bearing that's noisy, they really howl when they get worn out, in order to change this bearing the rear end gears must be removed, new bearings should be installed on all parts, 4 total, the metal from the failed pinion bearing will ruin the rest of the bearings, might as well only do it once, also change the axle bearings and seals while you are in there.

it has to be bearing noise, gear noise goes away in one direction or the other, for instance excessive ring gear to pinion gear backlash can make noise on deceleration.

I would first check the rear diff fluid level. Does the noise change on acceleration or while coasting.

Have a 2004 impala with howling noise from the front?

Here are a couple of things to check for. When driving turn car left and the right to see if noise gets louder then quieter. If so you will need a bearing hub. Also check power steering fluid in pump, if low you will get a howling noise. Looking for a noise is difficult task from a computer. Hope this gives you a starting point.

Try jacking your vehicle up and turning the tires. listen for any odd noise like a grinding sound, wheels hubs have been known to make a grinding noise when they go bad.
