Question about 1990 Honda Civic
I have replaced the battery twice, the alternator twice, and the same symptoms persist. The car will not start intermittantly without a jump. It is never possible to anticipate when this will occur. Occationally will have to be towed because the jump will not work.
Last go around... the battery and the alternator were tested. One time the shop said the battery was bad, another time they said the alternator was bad, and today, when nothing has been changed, they say that they are both good and nothing is wrong with the car. The claim by the shop is that there is no electrical drain.
I tested the voltages myself. The battery before starting was 12.5v approx., After starting, same. After loading (turning on lights) kicked in alternator to 14.5v. Was told by shop that this is normal for the type of alternator.
Thanks for any info on this intermittant problem.
Check all you earth staps to body and engine - ensure they ar free of corrosion - take them off and clean them up if dirty. This problem is usually worsened as the vehicle heats up and reistance increases as it does so.

Along with the relay issue they some models have a very tight route for wiring from the battery to the main harness components check very carefully for any tight spots the wires may be severed also check the frame ground from the - battery terminal wire and connection itself. last suggestion do you get lights and accesories when this happens or is everything dead if you do it could be a bad connection to the starter and have nothing to do with the alternator or battery
