Question about 2004 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

Auto revs, lost of power this morning may be sensor.

Had auto scanned at autozone. The results was TPS, MAP or MAF sensor. What do you suggest I do. Should I simple take it to the dealer. I must do something, and I hate taking this car to anyone. It seems men usually see a female and instance attempt to run game /take advantage. I have a defensive attitude towards most men when it comes to auto repairs. Thanks for your advise.

So you know, I'm a guy...

Anyways, not all auto tech's are like that. Your dealer is the best bet. the TPS is the throttle position sensor
MAP is manifold absolute pressure and MAF is mass air flow.
sometimes one will take the other out, or give false readings, but, there is no maf on your car, and unless you have a containated intake then a map is unlikely, unless of course it's a wiring issue.
I could tell you it's alot of different things which could all take out these sensors, but I don't have the car in front of me, so I won't.
Take it to your dealer, speak with the service manager and address your concerns with him/her, when in doubt go to the top.

If that fails, I live in Ontario....lol and I can fix anything just have to have it in front of me. Good luck and let me know how things go.

iCON, you mean IKON< right?

HOT and cold engine,
Is hot idle speed RPM right near 800 and steady, not racing fast?

power loss, is the CEL lamp glowing running, yes, scan it.
post engine type exactly. one of these?
1.3 L I4 (petrol)
1.6 L I4 (petrol)
1.4 L I4 (diesel)
1.8 L I4 (diesel)

so its the first 2, as you said, coil, so its a GAS engine.
power loss, do the 60k tuneup
clean the MAF, sensor. if it has one. ask how. first.
does engine power return , at wide open throttle, held? up hill?
yes/no
if no, weak maf, air leaks or low fuel presssure
if power loss is only brief, then bad TPS.
my guess this engine, is MAP based, no MAF,
if so, then clean the nipple on the MAP sensors.
make sure its not clogged .
If the map works ,any air leaks cause fast idle. and FULL POWER>
so id bet the power loss is from low fuel pressures.
that is why i ask for WOT power up a hill, hot, got that.
if just tip-in power loss (recovers) that is a bad TPS.
the do wear out. easy, at 100k.

there are 2 EFI systems, which one yours has im clueless but can fix both , easy. (maf or map based) aka. air /speed density systems.

2003 kia Sedona at a cold start the rpm runs very high and it will take over 2 minutes before its slowly starts to drop.

TPS, IAC, EGR, MAF, MAP. all sensors all having to do with the way the car starts and runs. Does it idle fine after warm up or does the idle jump up and down, or does it go so low sometimes, you think it's going to die on you? I'd look at the TPS and IAC 1st. Go to autozone or advanced auto parts and have then plug the OBD II code reader into your ECU and see if they can pull a code.

When car is parked and idling engine revs up and down without accelereating

Replace idle air control valve then reset the computer with a scan tool or pull the ECM fuse then put it back.

My 99 f350 shakes like a teenager trying to learn how to drive a stick when i push on the gas pedal more than half way has anyone seen this before

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If that's the case then there are two reasons why it shakes. A faulty TPS (throttle position sensor) and a faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor. You definitely have vacuum flow irregularities that's why the car shakes. The TPS and MAF is located on the throttle body and by replacing it the issue can be resolved.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

My 1996 chevy silverado runs so poorly that it vibrates it pulls hills about 25 mile an hour i cant give it throttle because it would fall on its face

is your check engine light on? if so, have the codes read at your local auto parts store. having these codes can narrow your search to find the cause of your problems

Autozone.com has a great site that tells you how to test sensors and hard parts. become a member and search their repair guide

These are things I would consider;

Clogged fuel filter / injectors / contaminated fuel
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
Clogged Catalytic Converter
Worn / corroded ignition parts.

New plugs wires maf map put it in gear shakes ...

You can have it scanned at advance auto for free, but it sounds like an idle air controll valve problem to me, it can be cleaned but the best results will come from replacing it. I hope this helps you.

My rpm r vey low once car has warmed up what do you suggest

Check engine light codes at a local discount auto parts house, e.g. Autozone, Advanced Auto, or O'Reily's. This is a free service, there should be a code telling you what you need to replace or adjust. You may have a bad coolant temperature sensor, or a bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure), or MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. The Throttle Positioning Sensor (TPS) may be faulty, or the Fuel Pressure Sensor.(FPS)

1993 Lexus Ls400 loss of power at 2500-3000rpm

Check your MAF and MAP sensor. The first 80% of your throttle signal from the TPS works with the O2 sensor to try to keep the air fuel ratio to 14.7 to 1 with the ECM controlling the fuel injector spray time and timing the ignition. After the 80% to WOT the ECM puts the O2 sensor in to an open loop and takes the Reading form the MAF and MAP sensor to run the engine richer so there will not be any Detonation to the engine and burning holes in the valves for running too lean. That is why it always feel like you get a little more when you ease off on the gas peddle from WOT. Recap check the TPS, MAF,and MAP sensor and wires to those sensors, if you can get the car scanned that would be great and you may find out which sensor may have gone bad, the other thing to is the fuel pressure regulator may be going bad and at WOT the pressure may be to high causing it to run to rich causing the loss of power. Good luck and hope this helps.

No engine RPM or power above 3500RPM.

Scan for computer error codes and post them so I can see them. Most of the chain type auto parts stores will do a scan for free. Try cleaning the MAF, but note that the contacts on the MAF are very delicate. DON'T TOUCH THEM WITH ANYTHING!!! Use only "CRC" MAF cleaner and be sure to follow ALL instructions on the can.
