They are located on the top of the oil pump. the oil pump is located on the front of the engine on the crank shaft. If your timing your engine do not forget to jump wires TE1 and E1 in your diagnosic box. this will give you the correct ignition timing.

HOW DO I GO ABOUT SETTING THE TIMING CORRECTLY ON A 1991 TOYOTA PICK UP 22R

Does it pop and backfire? Are you sure the distributor was also correctly set? If any of that is true, you may be 180° out of time.

Do the timing mark on the timing gears match up with off colored links on the timing chain every revolution

No, the crank turns four times, the cams turn two times. Then they should match.

What degree mark is tdc for a 22r engine?

-You replace timing belt and want to line up...? If so must be 0 (Zero)
-Or just want to adjust timing...? If so check under the hoop. It should has label there tell you. If there is not label there check in its manual

Where is the fuel filter located on a 1994 toyota pickup?

Not sure what engine you have, but on the 22R or 22RE (2.4 liter four cylinder) It's on the right side (passenger) lower engine just above the oil pan, and in front of the starter motor. You go through the inner wheel well just above the right front wheel. There is an access panel.

I have a 1982 toyota pickup with the 22r. My dist. is not turnning.Does it have a chain or a belt?,and what kind of tensioner?

The 22R engine has a timing chain. The tensioner is like a small plastic block that pushes the chain to the side between the crankshaft and the camshaft.
Best way to find the problem with the distributor, is to take the valve cover off and see if the timing chain is broken or the gear running off the camshaft is broken.

Need to change engines

If you have a 22r carbed then all 22r carbed engines from 1981-1995 will interchange. You may need to use sensor out of your old engine however. The 20r,22r,22re,22ret all have the same mounts and tranny bolt patterns. how ever there are lot of differences. you can swap from a 22r to a 22re but you must also swap the entire vehical wiring harness to do it right. if you have a 3.0L i would keep the same engine. some people have swap to the tacoma 3.6L but that is a expensive swap not exsactly bolt on so to say. If you have a 22re then stay with the 1986-1987 22re because the newer 22re use different computers, electronics ,sensors and more.. Same story with the 22ret. I hoped this helped.

timing cover is warn through I bet the guides are broken and it makes a knocking sound! most common problem. You will need a timing kit and a cover.
