Question about 1998 Jaguar XJ8L

1 Answer

My car won't start..what can keep a 1998 XJ8L Jaguar from starting? it was running perfect, stopped at a light, I pressed the gas, it started sputtering, and cut off. I tried cranking it several times, but won't start at all now. Previously, I had an Autozone diagnostic reading: it said 'misfiring'. My mechanic said he checked the plugs, the crank, and did everything he could think of that could keep it from starting. He suggested that I take it to the dealership for a master reading diagnostic. What will the master diagnostic see that other diagnostics won't see...what major things can keep my car from starting?

Sounds like a fuel pump issue. The Jaguar dealership will have the correct equipment to diagnose the issue.

1998 jaguar xj8l, it wont start, i can hear the fuelpump come on but also hear gas pouring back into the tank, is this normal or has my fuel line come loose?

Have verified the injectors are energized and if the ignition coils are firing the spark plugs. Do your rpm indicator show the engine is turning and sending a signal to the rpm gauge.

2yahoo.comlet xj8l sit idle not starting it for 1 year i think gasoline varnished

There could be many reasons why the car won't start. If you are correct about the gas, and the injectors aren't clogged, Syphening out the old gas, adding fresh premium gas, and having a helper spray starting fluid in short bursts into the air filter intake while you turn the engine over should start the car. Good Luck.

Jaguar XJ8 1998 3.2 cranks over but won't start, ran perfectly yesterday, although low on fuel at the time it still showed 30 miles range left.

fill with 5 gal of fuel, check fuel at motor , looks like tire valve, cover with rag and let evaporate if any comes out before starting

Could be an A/C problem. Please have the car in to a certified Jaguar re[air place or the Jaguar dealership.
Have you checked to see if the A/C compressor wheel spins?
