Question about 2003 Lincoln Aviator

1 Answer

Climate controlled seats

Hello, I have an 2003 Aviator, 75,000 miles. Six months ago I had to replace the battery because mine went completely dead. Bought a new battery, installed it and now the climate controlled seats dont work. The lights on the door switch wont even light up. Took it to 2 different dealers and called 5 srvice stations and they all said they never heard of this problem. One ford dealer told me they THINK I need the 3 modules replaced, and for $500 not including labor, they MAY be able to fix it. On a forum I belong to, It seems like a common problem, but noone seems to know how to fix it. Please Help!!

Check out aboutautomobile.com site and enter your vehicle data and see if there is a recall or TSB.

have had my drive seat fixed 3 times and is being repair as we speak for the fourth. Passenger side I had repaired once and it is out now also. I love my Navie, but the seat accessories are junk. I too, have a 2000. If you can bear with me for about a week, I will know why these are not working and will be able to follow up with you about yours first hand instead of guessing. Fair enough?

No recalls on it. Anyone who has owed a LS will have/will experience this problem. It's gotta be cleared. It should cost you around 70-100.00 dollars. For the gas smell, I would say it's the start of you're coils failing on you. Good luck.

SOURCE: 2003 aviator check engine on why? car has brand

There is no way to know why that light is on without a Scan. There are hundreds of codes in the cars today especially with the luxury cars that have body control computers.

Try taking it to an Advance auto or Autozone. They will usually scan if for free and that will give you a place to begin to answer your question. The radio problem I believe is unrelated. In my years of experience I have not seen the radio make the CE light come on. The CE light relates only to safety or emissions.

Hope this helps. Get the code and post it and someone will help you figure it out.

Sounds like a dealer only part. Sorry. There are other routes you can take with these vehicles. you can change out the air bag suspension with regular shocks and struts.

Upper ball joints are NOT serviced seperatly you have to replace the upper control arm and you probably need to replace the brake pads and rotors at this time also plus the calipers by now.

Lack of power, hesitation, climate control blowing hot air

Always check body grounds. You may have good power to the engine with a good ground still, but your body grounds control power to all else.

Depower and Repower the Supplemental Restraint System. This will "re-train" the system to recognize the climate controlled seats.

2003 C320 - 'Battery under voltage, switch consumers off'

when the vehicle voltage supply gets low, the car will shut down high current consumers (seat heaters, climate control fan, etc) until the voltage stabilizes. you might have a battery going dead, or the alternator might be wiggin out and not charging at times or when it gets hot. There have been many issues with the "alternator voltage regulator" mounted on the back of the alternator, failing completely or failing intermittently and under load. How old is your battery? Have you had to jump start the car recently?

Idles rough upon start , goes dead when letting up on gas.

If the bat went dead and was disconnected it can take 25 to 50 miles of driving for computer to reset sensors and controls. Sounds like MAF Sensor maybe reading different than when it was first driven. Did you drastically change climates or altitudes, New readings from when it originally was put into service. Slight changes in temp, alt and other variables gradually reset, if driving does not improve within 50 miles it will need diagnostics.

Climate control panel dead

Hi Badrick

Firstly, try disconnecting both your battery connections, and with the battery disconnected, turn the ignition switch fully, 3- 4 times ( To just discharge the computers ) Then reconnect the battery cables (pos + ) first.
This usually cures your problem.

Good Luck
John.
