Question about 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport
The tranny (automatic for 6 cyl engine) works fine, then when the jeep has been driven for a while it seem that it slips out of gear. The engine races to 3500-4000rpm and the car goes nowhere. Pull over and sit foe a couple of minutes then it works, then it repeats the problem. I have changed the TPS switch. Also just replaced the fluid and filter and this didn't help either.
I would pull for a rebuild. sounds like the torque converter is stressed due to some gear ratios that are out of whack. this will require a total rebuild if possible.
