Question about 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Rubbing noise sounds like it's coming from steering column

I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu Classic with approximately 69,000.00 miles on it. There is a rubbing noise when I turn the wheel when it's cold outside, the car has been sitting a while (like overnight) or when I have to make a sharp/hard turn. The rubbing noise is sporadic.

It sounds like 2 very hard pieces of rubber bands that could break (if that makes sense). I have read via internet that this model has a problem with the steering. I have also read that this could be in the wheel area. Of course, I don't have much money to work with but am wondering which area I should check first.

Thanks,
LL

I have owned about 15 cars so far. ALL of the Chevy vehicles had developed problems with the ball joints / ball bearings. The most recent one was the one where I heard the rubbing noise. Unfortunately the front tire almost totally came off. It turned out to be the ball joints / ball bearings & the pinion. cost a couple thousand to fix. Get it checked. I saw another Chevy & that driver was NOT so lucky - their tire completely came off.

What's your problei have a 2004 chevy malibu classic, when im brakeing and turning to the left the car sounds like a bad bearing but it feels like its binding up. what could be causing this proble

It could be something to do with the rack n pinion. I also own a 2004 chevy malibu classic and I have had to change the "steering rack." Now dont hold me to that, but with a little more info on how the car is acting and driving I may be able to further assist this problem. Hope this helps. Good luck

2004 malibu classic turn signals work properly when off still make clicking noise

Your turn signal flasher unit must be bad. Never heard of this. The flasher is under the dash. Just follow the clicking sound till you find it, probably up under dash around the steering column. Replace it and you should be good.

I have a 2005 chev. Malibu and its making popping noise in the front

Depending on where it is coming from it could be a bad u joint in the transaxle or the steering column can also pop on these models. the steering column has grease inside that when it dries and hardens the colapsable shaft starts moving around and binding slightly. All Chevy service departments know of this issue.

Told by gm dealer we need a new steering colum for our 2004 malibu maxx, $1,100.00,plus a rack because it is binding and leaking 586.00,plus a shaft 300.00? it has 140k miles. never in an accident all...

Very rarely does the steering column go.....It sounds like you have a power steering fluid leak somewhere or the rack and pinion went bad. Go to a small garage and have them look at it if you can't. But, don't tell them what the Dealer said! They just might confirm it and give you a better deal than the Dealer!!! Tell them you don't have alot of money and just let them find the problem...You will probably be surprised about the diagnosis this time. It might be something alot more simple to fix....and cheaper too! I sincerely hope that this was helpful for you. Take care and God bless.

I need to know how to find the power steering cap so that i can fill it up on a 2.2l chevy malibu 2004

I believe it is an electric power steering system & its built into the steering column if less then 50000 miles I would go back to dealer & complain and get gm assistance if you are having problems very pricey to fix

I have a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer LS with strange noise.....

If it is making a noise in the belt area, have them check the water pump. These get loose water pump bearings that cause belt noise.
