My 1992 S10 blazer with Vin code Z (TBI) has a very high idle when started cold. It stays at 2000 rpm for about 10 to 15 minutes then falls gradually back to 600rpm. When it is warm and i touch the gas it sticks to high rpm for about half a second. The Service engine soon lamp is on, but i don't have a read out tool. I cleaned the idle air intake, but it made no differance. Does anyone know how to read out a code from flashing off the SES light? I like to know what parts can give the problem before just order some parts.
You need to replace the throtle body controll sensor. Also you may want to make sure all your linkage from the pedal to the throtle body is cleaned and lubed correctly. While playing in this direct area. Your throtle body is only 4 bolts away. Why not get some carb cleaner and get to know your truck just a litle more.
If this is a carborator, then you need to turn my warmup idle down. there are 2 sets of idles on carborators. the one to warm up the engine, automatic choke or pin settings. Get a Chilton, find out which idles pin is for what. and play a litle bit.
I think you have a throtle body so I would also check the automatic air intake sensor. It could be going bad. Check your filter and make sure its clean.
hope all this helps.

Today i checked the voltage of the throttle position sensor; it was 0,57 Volt at closed throttle, and gradually got higher with more throttle. So i think the TPS is ok. I short circuited the read out connector for flashing codes; it only gives code 12 so no problems there. The service engine soon light got out when I started the engine. Still have the high rpm with cold engine. Air filter is new, throttle body is cleaned and the throttle plates close neatly. A vacuum leak would give problems with both cold and warm engine. Anyone any further ideas?
