Question about 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

2 Answers

I have a 2002 VW Jetta 1.8t and when I hit the gas to accelerate the car shakes. When I let off the gas it stops. Also if I sit with the car on it overheats rather quickly. I noticed neither of my fans are working but why? Also when my car is cold my transmission slips but when warm shifts fine. What does all this mean?

Hi there - I'm having the exact same problem, with the exact same model, engine, and year. May I ask, what ended up being your solution?

Your car overheating is either low coolant or its the thermostat. The thermostat is what tells the car to add coolant and turn on fans.
Your tranny slips could be because low transmission fluid, which was the cause with my VW. Or your tranny is bad, which is common with VW.
When your car shakes when you accelerate does it seem like its choking?

When you accelerate and your car shakes that means you have a broken axle.and if the fans ain't kickin in it might be a fuse or oyull need to replace your fans.when the car is cold and you take off the trans slips but dosent make no grinding noise is normal because when engine is cold the oil; gets cold and its kind of hard to luburcate the grinders and when you go you could feel the difference as the engine warms up.

if the tranny is slipping you could be low on transmission fluid, be careful their are two types of fluids only by calling your local dealer parts department and give them your VIN# they will tell you which fluid the car needs. Check your tires and axles for your acceleration problem. your heating problem could be a coolant control switch it is a switch which controls the fans to turn on if it has a short the fans will never turn on causing the car to overheat.

Shaking when accelerating

It could be loose or broken motor/transmission mounts. Since it only does it on acceleration, I don't think the tires would be the problem.

My neon 2002 send codes p0500, p0700 and p1684 when i stop in a light the revolutions will go from 900 to 500 and it will start shaking if i hit the gas pedal it recovers to 900rpm

i had the same problem at stop lights.

i had the computer flashed to the latest version at the dealer for free, and the shaking is gone and idle is back to normal. i was kicking the car back to normal idle just like you.

(although, i'm not sure if there's a deeper problem or not. now i'm experiencing sluggish acceleration and sometimes have difficulty accelerating over 60mph. sometimes fine, sometimes not. so you might run into that next...)
