If there is no loss of Coolant, which is a sign of Head gasket failure to the combustion area, which generates white smoke, I would recommend after 4000 miles of your mileage alone, a complete Service of Engine Oil and filter, AIR filter and Fuel filter.
An inexpensive way to find a recurring combustion problem, At 60k miles, the Spark plugs should still be good, but pull them anyway, just to confirm.
Check your muffler, is it thick black? The engine is burning oil, you need new engine if the cylinder ring is bad (compression test), and new catalytic converter that poisoned by excessive oil.
Many altima 02 has pre-catalytic converter failure that cover under 8 years/80k miles emission law. The materials in the pre-cat destroy the engine. It is well known problem and you can get new engine under this warranty
my advice is get ride of itand the reason is if it's using water there is a reason, that being that your headgasket is blown. it's seeping water into the cylinders and the intake thus the hard starting. if the water was leaking into the cab you will smellantifreeze it will have a unmistakable oder. now with 110,000 miles your decision is whether you think the vehicle is worth it i can't make that decision for you however you do have plenty of life left in the car but you will have to spend at the minimum of 800.00 to replace head gasket and the intake as well and hope that you don't have warp heads if they are aluminum. the sound you are hearing is probably the cooling fans on their housing sometimes that happens it's an easy fix.. please rate this and if you need more answers just reply back to me..good luck
