Question about 2005 Toyota Corolla
Where is the clip release
There no clip, is kinda tricky but you just have to bend the blade back until reach about 90 degree angle then slide down.

Normally, all you need to do, is lift the arm and slide a small locking tab into place. Then, just lift the arm off. If it doesn't work like this, it has a screw in the center.

Pull, and the plastic clips will disengage. Some will break, there is nothing you can do about that. Best to make a run to the dealer and pick up a handful of extra clips for the ones that do break. There are tools that help prevent the clips breaking but they'll still break and it's not worth it.

Testimonial: "Thanks managed to get it off without breakage - another handy tip use a push knife under the rear portion of the internal release moulding to assist"

First: make sure the emergency brake is not applied. Second: over time the drum wears inside where the brake linings make contact, which makes an outer ridge. You will have to retract the brake linings to clear that ridge. Look on the back side of brake, and there should be a slotted access port to loosen the linings. If present remove cap cover, then insert wide blade flat screw driver to manually turn a star type toothed gear. Note: you will not be turning the screw driver, but making muliple up and down prybar movements to turn that hidden gear. I am not certain which way loosens the linings on your model. You will have to try going clockwise or counter clockwise.
