Re: 97 LS 400 BRAKE LIGHT
Usually its either a combo of screws on the outside of the lense and inside the trunk there are plastic washers you have to remove. Also check for metal spring clips. they release when you pull on them.that should help

Look in the trunk for the plastic access panels. Remove the side that has the burnt out bulb. Locate the bulb holder that holds the burnt out bulb. Grasp it in one hand and turn it counter clockwise until it becomes loose enough to remove it. Once you have it out, remove the bad bulb and insert the new one. You will have to push in on the bulb and turn it a little counter clockwise to get it lined up to slide out. Assembly is the reverse of what you just did.
i think this model has a line of bulbs in it ,the later ones use LCDs ,if its the later type then its a complete unit. Most likely if its the early type their will be either a clipor grub screws either side of the unit
you must slide the entire high mount brake lamp unit to the left( pass side) and lift straight up. unplug the wire and remove the unit, it will be easier to change the bulb this way. make sure you use the correct bulb or the warning lamp will not go out.
