You have a leak in the fuel evaporative emission system. The fuel light flashes when the gas tank and system is not sealed, and the purge control cant **** vacuum or hold vacuum in the tank. Usually its the gas cap not sealing the tank correctly, the "activated charcoal canister shut off valve" wont completely close the system, or the "purge control valve" under the hood isnt opening/pulsing correctly enough for the engine manifold vacuum to create the vacuum in the gas tank

I took my car to a mechanic for my check engine light. It came up with 9 codes. P0455, P0172, P0302, P0304, P0305, P0300, P0301, P0303, P0172. I have replaced all the plugs and wires and whatnot. (not sure...

All the P0300 codes are engine miss codes. The P0455 is a catalyst inefficiency code and the P0172 code is a rich mixture code. All of these could be caused by faulty oxygen sensors. What kind of car, engine size and mileage is it?

Why do my gas needle go from low fuel light on to exactly how much gas I have in the tank?

I'm not sure I am understanding your question. The low Fuel indicator light comes on, depending on how sensitive it is set, when you have between 2 and 5 gallons of gas left in the tank. This also depends on how accurate your fuel level sending unit is reading the fuel level in the tank. The low fuel level light depends on the level of fuel in the tank itself but other than using that sensor it has nothing to do with the fuel gauge itself. The fuel gauge may or may not be accurately showing the fuel level.

How do i adjust the headlights on my 1988 mercedes 420 i need to aim or replace my head lights i do not know the first thing about it

The adjustment screws/nuts should be located either on the top of the headlamp assembly, behind the headlamp assembly, or near the frame rail by the radiator support.

You will have vertical adjustment screws for each independent beam (separate highs and separate lows, but will be same screw if highs and lows are the same bulb). You may also have additional horizontal adjustment screws as well

Park your car on a level ground 30 feet from a wall and measure the height from the ground to the bulb and mark on a wall (do this for highs beams and low beams if the bulbs are separate, if highs and lows are the same bulb, only do it for the lows)

For Low Beams: If the headlights read VOR, then aim the brightest part or cutoff part just below the mark on the wall. If it says VOL or nothing, aim them 2 inches below the mark on the wall.

For High Beams (if separate from low beams): Aim the headlight directly at the line you marked on the wall.

Check engine light comes on as gas level reached 1/4 tank which causes low fuel light to flash in my 98 MB SLK230...any idea as to the cause besides bad gas cap?

Have you had the fault codes read? If not, why not take the car to an autoparts store and have them retrieve any codes stored in the computer. Most parts stores will do the scan for free. It could be an emission related problem, but getting the codes should narrow the cause down. The check engine light indicates the computer has noted a fault in one of the car's systems. Hope this helped and best wishes.

1991 420 SEL Merecedes

Mercedes electrickery is complex and can be temperamental, plus it could have an anti-theft system to further complicate matters. It is entirely possible your car has more than one fault and possibly more than two...

Generally the fuel gauge and low fuel warning light has a separate circuit from the fuel pump even though mechanically they share the same space and could conceivably affect each other.

I suggest you put your preconceived ideas on the back burner and go back to basics. Check fuses, check supply voltages, check in the vehicle handbook whether there is an anti-theft system and so forth.

Hi Amber

This is the Low Coolant Level indicator. You may need service soon. Hopefully, you are just low, however, it could indicate other problems (minor or major).

NEVER remove the radiator cap while the coolant is HOT!

Here is info straight from your owners manual:
Low Coolant Warning Light
This light comes on
briefly when you turn
your ignition on.
If this light comes on and stays on and you hear a chime,
the vehicle should promptly be pulled off the road and
the coolant level checked.
