Does engine start making a loud noise? if not it the oil pressure sending unit
if so then its main bearings and oil pump!!
and are you losing any oil? if not then check above
if so then check gaskets

What Make Model and Engine. I'm sure you have tried and oil change. Try hooking up a mechanical gauge to check the pressure.

I'm sorry I see it's a Jeep. It might be the oil pressure sending unit but hook up the mechanical gauge.

A common problem with the 4.0 liter jeep engine is the oil sender unit.It should be rite behind the oil filter and is easy to get to and replace.they are not expensive either.

Have oil pressure but gauge goes 80 to 40 to 0 doesnt tick at 0 turn off turn on gauge goes to 40 than to 0 no tickin

Possibly the gauge is off or bad. The only way to know your true oil pressure is to hook up a mechanical oil gauge to the fitting where your gauge sender is. Any mechanic's shop would have an oil gauge.

Hi, this is not the first time i've heard of this problem..I have repaired engines with rod knock, crank bearing knock and piston slap after these treatments. These products can clean so much carbon and varnish from the engine that it brings the real internal problems to the surface. Try using thicker oil

No oil pressure and a knocking noise to accompany this.sometimes the knocking goes away when the oil pressure gauge will flutter slightly.

First thing is to NOT attempt to run or drive it. Knocking is a sure sign that serious engine damage is starting to occur. Either your oil pump has failed or your engine is worn out. Take the car to a shop and have the engine checked out. A mechanical oil pressure gauge will give an accurate reading of how much oil pressure is actually there. A compression test will let you know the condition of the rest of the engine.
I would take it to an engine rebuilding shop for an assessment, just check to see if they have some experience on imports. They would be the most knowledgeable on what to do from here. You may be able to simply install a new oil pump and be good to go, or you may have to look at rebuilding or replacing the engine, but a few bucks right now at a professional shop could save a lot of time and money being wasted.
Hope this helps.

Oil Pressure gauge stuck at maximum, coolant gauge stuck at maximum, speedometer erratic (either not working or working after startup)

The oil pressure gauge on my 2003 Avalanche reads "0" and activates low oil pressure warning. Oil level is OK and engine does not sound like one with with no oil pressure; AKA no knocks or ticking. The mileage is 50,000 on this vehicle any ideas as I with no gauge I am leary of driving it? Please advise!

I have an 02 wrangler and the oil preasure goes down when Idling is that an oil pump going bad?

First we would need to know when this occurs. Asuming the oil level is at the full mark!. If the pressure goes up during acceleration and down at idle when engine is fully warmed up, then this is normal. An engine requires 10 psi of oil pressure per 1,000 rpm ( ex. 20 psi at 2,000 rpm, 25 psi at 2,500 rpm, and so on ) . If the gauge is moving back and forth erratically at idle , i would say the gauge is bad. If it drops to 0 while accelerating I would say your oil pump is bad. If from time to time it seems to work and other times it seems not to work, I would say the oil pressure sending unit for the gauge is bad. If the pump failed you would start to here a Knocking noise from the engine in a short period of time. Use the above scenario's to narrow down what it may be.

If the valve lifters are quiet you most likely have oil pressure even with gauge showing "0".Sounds like the oil pressure switch going bad.I would try that first.

Oil pressure gauge reads normal when first starts. as it warms up, gauge goes to zero. If I rev engine, gauge goes back to normal.

Two things...when it reads zero, is there any engine noise (tapping or knocking)? After you rev the engine does the pressure read normal at idle and function normally, or does it go back down? Either way, you should not drive the vehicle 'till you have a mechanical gauge (yours is electro-mechanical) put on there and the actual pressure is tested. The condition may be a bad sending unit, a bad bearing or possible obstructed oil pump screen. The repair is obviously different for each one and the price is as well.

The oil pressure gauge keeps dropping down to 0 while i am driving

If you don't hear any ticking or knocking while the pressure gauge drops, the problem is probably a failing "oil pressure sensor". If you do hear a ticking or knocking, the problem is probably a failing "oil pump".
